I never maximize my windows (unless I'm playing a videogame or something). Like others said, narrow windows are much easier to read. Plus, I keep my IE windows near the top of my screen, so I can read IMs and IRC in the background...my old monitor actually had IRC burned into the screen, I had it visible so often :x

Weird part though, I have this weird privacy issue where I never like people to know what I'm doing...I wear headphones when people are in listening distance, I shut the bathroom door to brush my teeth or comb my hair...and I keep a window maximized in the background all the time, so I can quickly click on it and cover up any websites I was looking at. No idea why, I just do.

only maximize for movies or games. NEVER EVER for everyday work. I have a superwide screen and have things arranged just so, so that I can click over to them quickly.

Thank you all. For any screen I used to be able to have windows maximized when I was reading a story. Now I can only do that with a screen that is when you look at the back is straight but have to have it much smaller if the screen is at an angle.

(Mac)

I do not maximize my windows unless I am working in a screen-hog like GarageBand or exclusively in a web browser for a long period of time. I will also minimize or hide any window I am not using at the time, hide for an entire app.

On my laptop I max my Firefox, since the computer is five years old and the resolution would cause horizontal scrolling for most web pages. On my workplace computer I have several displays and several windows open and none of the windows is ever max'd.
