I realised I was doing it when I came in to this thread.
Yes, anywhere that's dry.

Do any of you who do it think the picking could be redirected to something more socially acceptable and less harmful?
Do you think you could exert control over it if you desired to as long as you did something else in its place?
Do any of you who do it have more classic hand-flapping type stims as well?
Do any of you who do it use weighted blankets and, if so, does it make a difference?

Redirect- maybe. I've tried to redirect my hand flapping into hard rapid hand rubbing, so stimming is less noticeable if I get caught. It'd be able to be explained away as exuberant hand warming in Winter, but I'm in trouble when Summer comes.
Hand flapping stim -yes
Weighted blankets - I like to feel a decent amount of blankets on me. And I like them closely around me

Never tried a weighted blanket. Where do you find them? I did recently get a really soft blanket that feels really nice and that i love to pet, though.

There are shops online that sell them (for quite a bit, and they also have vests, scarves, lap pads, etc) and there are a lot of places that you can get directions to make your own, too. I read about them on a thread here not too long ago and recommend searching the board for them. They got great reviews. I'm curious if other responses will be in line with yours. It's giving me insight into something my husband can't explain to me.

Cool! I'm searching on google for sites that have weighted blankets right now. I never thought about it, but it might be a good idea... I do tend to like having a pillow or something laying on top of me when i sleep... so extra weight might be nice. Most of the ones i'm seeing seem to be made for children, though. It seems like it might get hot in the summertime, too. But if i can find an adult one at a decent price, it seems worth a try.

Yeah, I do this to zits, scabs, dry spots, and skin hanging out.

Yes...
Once (about 2 years ago), after shower, some skin started peeling on my knuckles. I began biting it off, and ever since I couldn't stop biting it. Sometimes, I bite each of these knuckles (one on each hand) until it bleeds. I've tried to stop, but before it heals I always find myself doing it again. Now, I try to use alternate ways of stimming, such as stim toys, to stop myself from doing this.
I also sometimes bite off the skin beside the nail cuticles, and on the fingers themselves, especially the skin that comes off after I cut my nails.

YES! I don't know why I do this exactly and I think I've been doing it my whole life or at least since I first started getting acne (which I still have though not as bad as when I was a teen). The only answer to why I do this that I've come up with so far is that I don't like the bumps and pits in my skin and all the little irregularities (mainly my face) and for whatever reason I think that my face and skin for the most part should be flat and smooth and since I can't do anything about the little pits and dips in my skin or the scars that are raised put in a few places (though the largest one in reach I do pick at from time to time cause it has a weird scabie thing in it which is hard to explain) so I pick at the bumps and things and try to 'fix' them. I picked 'yes but not many visible wounds' for the poll since most of the time what I scrape off doesn't bleed unless it was pimple related and I kind put pimples and related pimple like bumps on a sub level in a way then just regular 'picking at my face' as my mom calls it.

I am not diagnosed with autism at this moment but I do have some sort of 'problem' for lack of a better term and I'm working finding out 'what is wrong with me' as I put it and I think it /may/ be AS but I'm not sure at this point since it could be something else I've never heard of or part of the so mild I didn't know I had it til my mom said so when I asked what Cerebral Pasly was at the store once (read the words off a donate money box at the register and since I didn't know what that meant except from the picture I deduced it was some kind of disability that required crutches or to be carry by some guy named Jerry. Just remembered it said 'Jerry's Kids' on it. No idea who 'Jerry' is). Sorry for the rambling ... I tend to do that sometimes and it's late here and I really should be sleeping instead of typing this.

Yes, and all the time.

I bite my finger nails excessively, more than half the length has disappeared.

I compulsively pick at the skin under my feet using a pin or scissors, and use the sharp edges of a bottle cap to allow the skin to peel away. Using the abrassive fabric of my socks I rub inbetween my toes to allow the skin to flake and to relieve me from the itching.
I do this daily, usually whenever the skin becomes irritable.

Skin-picking can apparently be classed as self-injuring, but I don't feel that mine is as I am not deliberately trying to cause any pain. It's more of a stim or nervous habit for me.

Scab, hangnails, cuticles etc topic

For me, this is a stim.
