I have neither Asperger's not HFA. I was diagnosed with Autistic Disorder. According to my parents, this is because they weren't sure if I had Asperger's or not, but definitely decided that I was not like other children and that I definitely had autistic traits that were present enough to say I was autistic. I am currently having this diagnosis looked into but am not sure how long this process will take.

But HFA just means Autism with normal IQ. Autistic disorder is autism, isn't it? So if you have an IQ in the normal range you're HFA.

I'm not sure what to pick. I underwent some tests at a mental health clinc by the doctors there in 2003/2004. The result was they said I "might have Aspergers". This was the first time I heard of it. When I found out the Aspergers is "a kind of autism" I dismissed it; I had the streotypical image of autism.
In 2006 I started looking into it. I looked it up on the internet, found Aspies for Freedom and later WrongPlanet, and realized I was an Aspie. I was diagnosed by a psychologist and psychiatrist specializing in ASD in children in 2007-2008 (I had the appointments in 2007 but only got the written diagnose in 2008) .

From another thread, I wrote:
When I learned about AS from studying about my son's diagnosis, I was struck by how much it resonated in me. So I took several of the online tests to get a benchmark; then I asked several (20+) people to take the same tests so I could gather a comparative sense of their accuracy. Then I asked them to tell me how they remembered me at various stages in my life - I can't "see" myself in many situations, so I often rely on feedback from others. Then I brought it up with my doctors, who then disagreed. While not 'officially' diagnosed, I went with the doctor who was willing to research AS in adults over the one who interrupted me mid-sentence to assure me he knew what the problem was without any assessment or testing, who has AS as 'Occam's Diagnosis' for me at this stage, albeit highly adapted. (It is important to remember that adapted and successful are two different things; I function much better in some areas than others.)

Would something written in my chart change the fact that I fit the criteria? Or that for the first time, the suggestions and approaches offered actually apply to my difficulties? No. Would I like to know something for certain? Yes. But at what cost?

Diagnosed by a neuropsychologist at the university. Good enough for any assistance and therapies available for it.

I was diagnosed with PDD by an ASD specailist, Dr. Kennith Ruder, in the 80's, but did not know until I was in my late 20's that PDD was in the autism spectrum. Mom did not tell me it was because she did not to "label" me. It wasn't until I was watching Temple Grandin on 60 min. that I realized that I was not alone in my "weirdness" that there are alot of folks like me. It made me feel complete.

My diagnosis was done by a psychologist. I don't know if she would be considered an ASD specialist, but she was the first psychologist I could find who had experience diagnosing AS in adults. She also works with kids with ASD. I was referred to her by the local chapter of the Autism Society of America. So I voted ASD specialist.

Some kind of HFA by some kind of guy in a room in a place where I went when I was a kid. Not a medical place though, so I guess it was the other thing.

*KNOWS STUFF*
