I guess I don't get why water = blue, except when water is reflecting the sky: which is often blue?
Yep.

Water is colorless.

How it appears depends on what it reflects and what is in it - we live along a river that's brown from all the dirt suspended in the water.
When flying and looking down in water it will often appear black unless brown like the river.

I actually think it is kinda cool when it turns progressively from blue to green. You know what I mean. :D

Yeah, to me it just says, "Look! We put unnecessary chemicals in our water!"

Totally agree. What is the point? And what about other colours, like hot-pink, or lime green, or perhaps tangerine.

F*** yes, I want hot pink toilet water.

Anyway, I think the blue is there so you can, like, see the clean and be reassured that your toilet is in fact clean. In case a mere clean-looking toilet isn't clean enough for you. Or something. <__<

Agreed on the pink toilet water. That would be entertaining for me to some reason to walk in and have it bright pink.

I think the blue stems from... well, childhood. When we colored pictures when we were little, often a lot of kids want the whole picture colored, and since you can't make it clear, obviously, most kids will choose blue.... like it is in the pictures of the ocean and all, and on maps it's always marked in blue.

Maybe it's just kind of a subconscious thing that people will often use blue to feel reassured that it is clean.... though if they've ever been to some of the beaches and such I've been to... they might would switch it over to permanent brown or green, lol.

I'm simply disturbed by the words "toilet" and "gross".

I prefer latrine or commode :)
