I can't see any way that you can detect emotions just from basic sensors, but you could allow wearers to display their current emotional state. I'm working on some similar ideas to make for the g33k show this season.

actually I could see that being very useful. if I could non-verbally indicate "introspective, please do not disturb" or "receptive to conversation" I wouldn't have to explain it all the time.

I'm using the tagline 'Emote Clothes - wear your heart on your sleeve'.

OK, so this isn't practical (yet) but here's the idea:

We're moving to an increasingly pluralistic and diverse society, and now this is including neurodiversity. Traditionally, societies were based on differentiating "Us" from 'Them' by having elaborate and largely arbitrary customs. There's a lot of discussion of writing 'Operating Manual' for ourselves, which I think is a really good idea.

Computers have all kinds of different standards, and go through 'hand-shaking' routines. Humans do it too, but it's difficult if our systems aren't similar.

So wouldn't it be cool if we could have a device that could exchange protocols with someone we meet, so we know how they feel about touching, eye contact, small-talk, and it could be biometrically self-adjusting for some things. Kind of like a Universal Translator for non-verbal communication.

HaHa.. I just thought that sometimes I want a car alarm built into my clothes. "Please step away from the aspie. Step away from the aspie. Now."

There will be a Maker space in your area where you could go along and work on this. I think it's a great idea. Definitely something that could be beamed via bluetooth from a phone or PDA.

Yeah,

That would be good actually to know someone's preferences upfront! Especially because then if they are too touchy-feel-y I'd know to avoid them hehe.

The other problem I have is actually finding things that people like to talk about.

So maybe it could profile their interests as well.

Sam :)

cool responses, the most important thing in this area is to deign it how you would like it to be and then find the technology. the tech side of things is being created and philips has already made garments which respond to emotions so yeah there are sensors that can do that , some how!

sounds like people would like what is essentially an internet profile type thing, where you can state your preferences etc through your clothing. do we do that already? closed off i think is often over sized and dark , open light and airy. so do we convay emotions and moods through light "letting the light in!" , or text, id like it to be somewhat abstract, what do you think?

msbehavour I live in the Uk dont know what a maker space is, but i will have alot of support in my University. But as its the summer , im trying to gather thoughts on how aspies would like life to be!

Whats your project like, how is it working out? are you using arduino? have you heard of the lillypad? might be useful to you.

No Fashist here topic

I have not paid much interest in fashion, only to the extent that I do not get unwelcome stares.

*Hats are a good fashion piece. i will not leave home without some kind of hat, but it must not be flashy or blow off in a wind. No logos, either. Tilley hats are a good model.

*Add more belt loops to the pants so that belt ends do not come out and poke.

*make shirts that do not come untucked during movement.

*Design brassieres so that they are not felt at all. (I only achieve this after years of wearing.) Absolutely no wires, ever.

*Make sleeves so that the sleeves move, not the rest of the shirt/sweater/blouse, during movement.

I was hoping my youngest would go into fashion design to incorporate my ideas, but she said she would not if she ever did!
