I announced my pregnancy on myspace and only one person said a thing about it and today another one of my school mates said something about it.

On facebook, I never got any comments until today from two of my old school mates but I don't really comment on other people's stuff so I am not hurt about it.

I love that!

I started a MySpace page pretty much for the sole purpose of seeing if anyone I knew might try to find me. I registered it under my real name, used the e-mail address I normally gave out to "friends," and even put the screenname part of my e-mail address as part of my MySpace address. I figured if anyone really wanted to see if I was on MySpace it would be pretty easy. After 3 years with no one I knew making any attempt whatsoever to contact me, I closed the account. :( In that time I did track down a few people and added them, but the only time I ever really heard from them was when they were promoting a gig. I can't tell you how many times I sent messages and made comments only to be ignored.

I started a Facebook page with a similar intent, but again, nobody made any attempts to get in touch with me. I closed that account, too.

I've pretty much given up on the whole social networking thing.

Side note: This topic reminded me of an episode of "The Big Bang Theory." Leonard said that Sheldon didn't have any friends. Sheldon said he had over 400 friends, to which Leonard replied, "MySpace doesn't count."

Duke666- I actually know that rule! :) I use it regularly with acquaintances. I just didn't realize I had to go through the process all over again with people who use to tell me extremely intimate things about themselves.

It's stories like these that make me glad I never bothered with social networking sites. I'd had enough of being snubbed and people being apathetic to my presence in the real world, I wasn't going to let myself suffer the same in cyberspace for the sake of following the herd.

I have very few old classmates I'm actually that bothered about. Between being an undiagnosed aspie, being the poor working-class scholarship kid at a private school, and being bullied, I didn't make so many friends back then.
