When I was younger, I used to be bit my mosquitoes constantly, plus the bites would swell so bad. As I got older though, they seemed not to bite so much, and the swelling was a lot less prominent for some reason.

Well I don't really spend that much time outdoors at night so I'm not sure. I live in the city too so there really isn't a lot of sitting water like that around. I don't think I was ever bitten any more than anyone else when I actually did live in the country maybe less.

I seem to get a lot fewer mosquito bites than my mates too. For me, part of the reason is that I can often feel them land on my skin.

Well, the Tasty Treats are dominating, so I guess this myth is busted.

I hardly ever get bitten. I suspect it's a combination of unusually low body temperature and sensory issues that have me wearing a lot of clothing even in summer weather.

Whenever we go outside, my fiance gets bitten all over! I usually never get bitten, or I only have one or two bumps.

But then again, I make sure to cover up my body with socks, long sleeves, long pants, and high-necked shirt, and maybe a cape or a bedsheet for good measure, even in the middle of summer. I avoid wearing sweet/flowery fragrances, too. I HATE the feeling of bug spray on my skin.

Besides, I find that covering my skin with fabric works better than covering my skin with bug repellent, anyway!

I don't like bug spray either, but it's better than being devoured. Speaking of bug spray ... I have discovered that it ruins the elastic in your socks if you spray it directly on them. Instead, spray it on your ankles first and let it dry before putting on your socks.

Mosquitoes don't bother me too much, but those accursed no see um's do. Earlier this summer, they got me so bad around the ankles that my legs looked like raw hamburger. And the itch will absolutely drive you insane.

Bug spray, as icky as it is, is much preferable to that.

Mosquitoes avoid me, but love him to death <grin>. What's kinda funny is that he's the one who seems stressed out in nature, while I'm relaxed and in my element. But I probably have an elevated background anxiety level.

So I wondered if aspies in general are not bothered by mosquitoes as much.

Interesting. Logically, being under stress would cause them to bite MORE! Certain insects, like mosquitos, tend to like fairer skin. They are ALSO attracted to carbon monoxide. BOTH are FACTS and proven through various tests, etc... Wouldn't stress cause more CO2? As for the color, maybe it is just that it is easier for them to see, etc... Who knows. I once had a roommate that, in an area with LOTS of mosquitos, that IDIOT would leave the window open. I could never get him to keep it closed. They left HIM(olive skin) ALONE, and I was bit ALL OVER!

I am a mosquito magnet. Usually I am the first in any group to be bitten.

Once I was gardening at work with a colleague when I was bitten. The situation was such that I could not go indoors straight away to apply antiseptic cream, so the best I could do was to scratch it gently. It was still obvious enough though for another colleague passing by to offer the use of her insect repellent later.

I have never seen an NT person in a similar situation (a mosquito bite itching/hurting so bad it's obvious) so I wonder whether it's because I feel the itch/pain more.

I heard that mosquitoes tend to zoom in on people with more acidic blood, and one way to resolve this would be to cut down on meat consumption. For the past few years I have been cutting down on my meat consumption (animal welfare is my primary motivation) and I seem to be getting fewer bites. It might be the herbal repellent we put in a few rooms at home as well.

The weather here is very humid. From past experience my skin tends to be irritated if I cover up and the sweat makes the cloth "stick" to my skin. So I apply the repellent and take a good shower once I am home.

Lots of biting insects are attracted to me. I just got rid of about a 6 inch or wider bug bite. I have no idea what caused it. Mosquitos like me, and so do black flies (which I am allergic to), and lots of other things as well. I hate it.

I´ve made a deal with them mosquitoes. I´ll leave them alone if they´ll leave me alone. It seems to work just fine. I do get bitten occasionally though but the bites never bother me, they don´t itch at all and the mark is always gone within few hours. They seem to love my wife and kids but I don´t need them around for the mosquitoes not to bother me, I am hardly ever bothered by them anyways.

I´ve also heard that if you eat a lots of sweets and other sugary stuff you are more likely to attract mosquitoes (and insects in general).

I've read that high levels of B vitamins circulating in the bloodstream repel mosquitoes. They can smell it and avoid the taste. I took B vitamins for years since I don't eat alot of animal protein but this past year I stopped. I got seriously snacked on for the first time in a long time this summer.

Interesting tidbit of information! I think I am actually a bit low in B vitamins, so maybe I will try and supplement and see if that makes a difference in my surrounding mosquito population! :)

Stressed, happy, mosquitoes still bite me.
I think it's because I'm Australian.
By law mosquitoes are required to bite us at least 7,624 times a year.
