I would never pray to a flag in school. It was just stupid.

Ah, okay. I took the OP's "Sound like an Aspie?" question as a mere notice of possibility, not as a diagnosis.

I don't think anybody can diagnose anybody somebody from watching one video of them.
But it's not diagnosing somebody to say that they "seem like" something.

They have a point. Kids reciting stuff like this shouldnt be too important cos they dont know what it means and theyre not choosing to do it, theyre being forced to. Doesnt that defeat the purpose a bit?

We had something like this where we had to salute the flag and saying something about the queen (im Australian). I still did it but it was kinda meaningless. They stopped doing it soon after that.

Wow!

10 years old, skipped the fourth grade, very advanced vocabulary and did you notice his hands?

Sounds and looks like a 'little professor' to me.

I remember a freshman African American Senator from Illinois standing up and making a very passionate speech a few years ago.

If he has AS, maybe he will be the first Autistic President of the United States?

Isn't he articulate? Isn't he right? Doesn't he sound like an Aspie?

I really liked his dad's reactions, too.

he sounds like he truly understands the constitution rather than this fellow

why do you hate freedom?

The child in the video did not appear to me as being forced, but yes, his mis-mention of "liberty" clearly indicates he has yet to actually understand the stuff he is talking about. If he did, and if he had actually been acting on principle, he never would have suggested the teacher might go jump off a bridge in threat of her very own pursuit of life and happiness.

I went to a private Christian school, which is probably why I'm a Pagan now, but every morning we had to stand and pledge to the flag and also the Christian flag. We just said the words or somethings just mouthed them or sometimes just didn't bother opening our mouths at all, because the teacher was turned toward the flag too, so she never saw. I never thought twice about it. It was part of homeroom. Announcements, prayer, pledge, attendance, lunch order. Just routine. Same way I automatically say "Fine, yourself?" when somebody asks me how I am.

WHen that guy in Cali sued to get "under God" taken out of the pledge because he and his daughter were atheists, I just didn't get it. I know that a lot of people would, but I don't. Why not just not say those words if she didn't want to? It's not like she's pretending to be religious. I never really gave it much thought. My Mom said that when she was in school "under God' wasn't even in the pledge.

Something else that bothers me along this line is how people say that kids aren't even allowed to pray in school now. Oh yes they are. Even in public schools. Anybody, anywhere, has a right to pray to whatever God they so choose as long as they are silent about it. Kids can sit in class and pray silently, read the Bible, read the Koran, the Torah, etc if they want. The only thing that law bans is staff led prayer. In other words, the teacher can't call for a moment of prayer before finals. Then again those same people who want to say that there should be staff led prayer in schools usually mean that there should be the prayer of their religion and demonination only.

Eh well.

Reminds me of me. Only I just got sent to the hall and yelled at for being 'disrespectful to the troops'.

I'm a teacher and I don't say it. I stand, sure, but I simply won't pledge my allegiance to a piece of material. I've gotten snapped at by other teachers who say I'm setting a bad example, but I think I'm setting a good one -- to think about what you're saying before you say it! Don't just mouth some words!

I will pledge alligiance to the USA. I'm proud to be an American. I'll pledge allegiance to my family, my friends, my faith. But never, ever to a piece of cloth with a certain pattern.

I'm English, so don't have to do anything like this. But yes, this boy seems like an Aspie to me :)

WHO do you think had him say it!?!?!?

Frankly, when I was a kid, I just mouthed half of it anyway. There isn't anyone that cares THAT much about whether or not you say it. So this is certainly NOT news! His father simply wanted his "15 minutes of fame"!

And ***I*** can't visit a friend or access a friends assets like a normal family member EITHER! So homosexuals have no fewer rights than homosexuals, etc... I spoke to my father about this, and he spoke of a friend that had to LIE and say he was someone elses brother, to see that person at the hospital. and HE was even black, and the other guy was white!

SO WHY all the commotion? PART of it is to hurt the church, though I have NO idea WHY! They want to be in parts of the priesthood, be married in such ceremonies, etc.... PART of it is to get the financial, insurance, divorce, and TAX benefits. To hear SOME talk, you would think it is some sort of removal of rights, etc....

And if they give homosexuals those "rights", why can't they give straight friends those rights? and if they could give straight friends those "rights", shouldn't SINGLE people get some, such as the reduced tax rates and increased investment allowances? HECK, I would really like THAT!

What a crazy country you people live in. Didn't the kids have to do something similar in communist Russia? About the revolution?

When I was in school I used to make up my own words to the Australian Anthem and later on learnt about how racist the original version was, so I don't sing it any more.

At least the kid didn't tell his teacher to 'get f**ked'. Now that would be disrespectful.

He does seem aspie like...the stimming, the flat face, he's articulate.
