I wouldn't wear those separated toe shoes. what if you bang your foot into something? If it's a small tree or the corner of something, it will go between your toes, and hurt even more. Plus, you'll have to buy a bunch of toed socks. Pebbles could get stuck in there too, you'll spend more time plucking crap out from between your toes than you will walking.
The people who review them say you're not supposed to wear socks, but put the shoes themselves in the washing machine. They say that grass gets stuck between the toes, but so far I haven't found anybody complaining about stubbed toes/banging feet. But the fabric between the toes takes getting used to. I've become a little obsessed with these silly shoes. They're really expensive for me, but I'm very tempted. I love to go barefoot, but don't like cuts and stickers on my feet, or how horribly dirty one's feet get walking barefoot in cities.

I'd feel ridiculous wearing shoes like that.
I read that people will ask you about them a lot, which is definately a huge negative to me. But that if you get the solid black ones (there are also ones with blue or tan uppers, contrasting with the black soles, very obvious-looking) people notice them less.
