Honestly, I'm still having trouble understanding how such questioning is actually a standard conversation starter by NTs. I dont think 90% of them even think before they give off a comment like that. It's remotely close to criticism in my mind.

Wigglyspider - I honestly hope for my sake that my lack of smiling is due to a neurological thing. I can finally know what response to give to these people so that they'll finally start shutting up. Though I doubt they will.

I think this might be the one aspect of Asperger's I hate more than anything in the effin world!

Please don’t think I knew any more than you did at your age because if anything I knew less but at my present age of 53 years I can confidently say that the cashier and the employee at Disney were trying to start a conversation with you. In other words they were trying to flirt with you. NTs can do this autonomous of any conscious thought.

Seriously, you've gotta cut people some slack for trying to start a conversation with you. They're not trying to insult you, they're trying to draw you out because they WANT to have some interaction with you.

Willard's right. This took me a long time to understand....and I still don't quite understand why they think telling me that I look depressed would want me to start a conversation with them. LOL!

I'm always accused of being "sad" or "snobby" or "mean". I'm just usually quiet and lost in my own thoughts.

I was once in the check out line and a guy said "smile, life's not that bad". I just told him, "Oh, It's all good, I'm just a deep thinker."

It's weird though, I've never had a woman say that to me, only men. I suppose they could be flirting...it's odd though.

I was told I look disapproving or have a "sour lemon" face.

In Russia its the man walking with a smile that is considerd not quite right in the head. They will actually look, and then avoid you if you have a grin on your face.

OP will fit right in :)

I get "why do you look so sad" ALL THE TIME, it gets annoying real quick.
