You tell Me...

The questions are in response to your question. People with AS are not all the same. With the same sentiment, not all pot heads are the same, not all bipolar people are the same, etc.

Do you understand the fact that just because I have AS it doesn't mean that I like the same music as everyone else with AS in the world?

Well, I think it's OBVIOUS that ALL ASPIES like Minimalism above all other styles of music.

Just look at how ordered and mathematical it is:

One of my focuses is a band, The Cranberries.

I only like a few genres. I listen to things like the berries, Sinead O'Connor, K D Lang, Enya, Enigma, Loreena Mckennitt, Sarah Maclachlan, Adiemus, Type O Negative, Melissa Ferrick, and since I saw him open for The Cranberries, Griffin House.

I like heavy metal, classic rock, and sometimes classical. Metal has to be the most troubled genre in music, because people either like the crappiest bands like Slipknot or Lamb of God, and others think it's all noise and crap. It's not a popular genre. Any "metal" band that gets popular nowadays are posers signed by record companies to be cash cows!

Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Danzig, King Diamond, Opeth, Candlemass, Saint Vitus, Bathory, Venom, Megadeth, Warbringer, Vio-lence, Death Angel, Death, Morbid Angel, etc. are the bands I like. Doom and thrash are my favorite genres.

Minimalism drives me insane. :) It's ordered and mathematical, but in the same way as "Two plus two is four" repeated ad infinitum is ordered and mathematical.

I made it 36 seconds into the minimalist song before I had to turn it off.

Personally I like swingers music, sonnets set to fancy music, death metal, blues, rave music, emo stuff in general, some pop (depends on the singer and lyrics), and I HATE rap, country, jazz, and the really depressing poetry sonnets that make you want to die. I like happy sonnets, not miserable shakespeare s**t. However, I don't represent the entire population of auties and aspies.

SITARS KICK ASS!

METAL (Scandinavian death metal, thrash, metalcore, the harder-rocking '80s hair bands, and straight-up metal like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Anthrax. Can't stand most of the '70s metal precursors or the '90s nu-metal bands, though).

I also like a lot of the new-age music. Kavin Hoo's piano pieces are incredible. Native American flute music is wonderful as well.

Both metal and new age serve to calm me down, although in completely different ways.

We now have some XM radio channels in our DirecTV package (hubby is a TV-holic, but that's another story), and I go back and forth between the Liquid Metal and Spa channels, which are about as extreme opposites as one can get. In other words, my taste in music is like many other preferences I have, which makes me a walking mass of dichotomies. I have no idea if that is an AS trait or not; I've never seen anything mentioned about it.

When I was in junior high and high school, one of my special interests was Styx, which of course falls into neither category...

My tastes vary...sometimes I'm willing to tolerate most music when I dont have any other choice (ex when riding the school bus)

I used to be into jazz, oldies, and even broadway music but I cant enjoy any of these things like I used to. In fact my recently developed hatred of theater has driven me to hate Broadway music now, with the exception of "The Lion King" and maybe a few others.

My big things now are dance/house/techno and movie soundtracks. I will also enjoy some hip hop, 70s/80s/90s pop and country that fits my liking.

I like different kinds of music, mostly in Spanish. In English, I only like music from the Disney renaissance movies.

What I like most, though, is listening to the same song, or the same part of the song over and over again.

That's a truly terrible piece of music (though those of you calling it the worst genre obviously haven't heard the happy hardcore some of our kids are fond of, which has about the same amount of variation, higher intended volume and lashings of inanity ^^ the poor things...)

Koyaanisqatsi worked very well though I thought.
