yes sleeping has always been a problem for me, i finally somewhat fixed it, as long as i can control my body temp, dont have a sensory overload, and actually had excercise so im worn out a bit, i sleep good. If i cant or dont have or dont do any of the above i slam my head against things then usually pass out or hug my cat for a bit to calm me down, shes sooo soft and purrs when she has weight on her haha. My sleep dr told me my body only needs 4 hours of sleep and that is normal for many with autism to have very irregular sleep patterns, but said any drug would prob have a bad affect on me so if i need the extra sleep for some odd reason or want more sleep to take a pill of benedryl wont harm my system. I also have my weighted blankets, special sheets, noise machine, black out shades, light therapy etc etc etc, and bought this new sheet omgosh i looove it, i recommend to anybody also cuz its cheap... heres the link maybe help you stay in bed more, helps me stay in bed a lot more, with the weight and then this its like heaven i swear my bed is my most fav place to be lol... http://cgi.ebay.com/CALMING-RESISTANCE- ... 414b4d338c

I noticed the latter half about the "irregular sleep patterns," but could it also be typical that fewer hours are needed for ASD folks? I've felt pretty damn good after 4-5 hours of sleep, versus 8-9 hours (or the 15-20 I usually get unless I try harder not to).

prob i feel a whole lot better after 4 hours except, i wish the rest of the world worked on 4 hours lol, life would be good, instead i gotta pop a benedryl in because the rest of the world are still asleep hahah, we try to go to bed around 2 or 3 a lot of the days so im not up in th mid of the night wandering or self injurying. I tried melatonin and took high doses, even more then one pill at low doses, didnt do a thing, benedryl the only thing or dimetap makes me drowasy enough. So do siezures i find since i sieze more im more tired which in one way is good in many other ways isnt, but im taking that one way as a plus hehe.

I have to be exhausted mentally and physically before I can go to sleep. There have been times that that doesnt happen for 2 days. I fell asleep at 4 this morning and was back up at 6:30 for work. If I try to sleep when I am not ready I will lay in bed and suffer from awful panic attacks until my body shuts down. I also have an extremely hard time waking up, it takes me hours to actually feel awake. I find for me that excercise helps me more then anything else. On the days I go to the gym for 2 hours I can usually fall asleep earlier and without the panic.

I can definitely relate to this. The panic thing doesn't happen all too often, but still often enough to take note of. Also, as a child, wrinkles in the bedsheets used to keep me awake... I couldn't stand feeling those ridges underneath me.

I don't ever remember having proper sleeping pattens, always had trouble falling asleep, and when I did it was a restless sleep, seemed to always wake up tired. Some times I would take antihistamines like Benadryl or a sleeping pill like Imovane, but they were unreliable, I have had some success taking melatonin for a few nights but it can cause some really bizarre lucid dreaming

I cant sleep with a top sheet at all, though I am thinking about looking into the link above.
