A few people have, but in a jokey way, although I know for sure that I'm either a geek or a nerd.

Nerd, geek, dork...whatever term you want to use, I heard it a lot. I was probably the biggest nerd in my . I tried so hard to fit in but never managed it. I was certainly a wannabe. After I gave up on fitting in and just embraced my weirdness, people stopped using the term so much. I did get "freak" a lot in high school, but I actually enjoyed that one.

Frequently, if without the negative connotations or the word. I'm generally seen as knowledgeable about computers, so the categorization is there, it's just not used as an insult.

I didn't resent being called a nerd. I reveled in it. =)

Of all the things I've been called, I wouldn't have minded being called a nerd.

My mom does it all the time, in an endearing manner of course.

Aye, I'm rather much a nerd/geek as well. People may call me what they will, but I'll continue to enjoy D&D, games, anime, and etc. regardless. Besides, much of what's often considered "Nerdy" becomes socially accepted/necessary as time goes on. Look at games and the internet today, everyone has a Facebook account/plays HALO/ or something along those lines as a teenager now. Only about 15 years ago even mentioning the word "internet" made you automatically a nerd, in the gaming recession of the early 1980's the U.S. release of the NES was cleverly disguised to look like a VCR. Nerds seem to have a sense for "what's next" in pop culture and are often responsible for its existence in the first place.

I am a nerd, but was never labelled as such very often.

I feel your pain

I might have to make a trip there soon, I've got this huge itch to fix this antique radio we've got just laying around.

People in my science class call me a nerd because I actually like science. They find science boring and I find it interesting, which is why I don't mind them calling me a nerd. I take it as a compliment.

Being a nerd is good, this means we are really passionate in what we love to do!

<-- is a nerd.

the consolation for this is that i get paid to get my geek on.

:thumleft:

your special interests can make you a valued asset, rather than liability. the people that matter will often overlook your eccentricities for the benefit of your expertise and work ethic... being remunerated to focus on those interests and to teach and guide others (to be a source of knowledge) is a rewarding experience.

Agreed. We shouldn't be penalized for our weaknesses!

I had such the power of nerdiness in Jr. High that I was able to spontaneously inspire two rows of my math class to chant Nerd Nerd Nerd...in sync when I entered into the class room...Ironically I am totally impaired when it comes to math..so they were just referring to my demeanor...
