I think the difference between psychopathy and autism is that in autism there is only a perceived lack of caring about people. Most people I've talked to with autism care about other people and want to interact, but are unable to and find it easier to be alone and shut everyone out.

I've done a lot of research on psychopaths for a book I was writing. By the way, sociopath means someone was diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder...a lot of disagreement on the difference between psychopaths and sociopaths. But people with autism seem to be more of victims, not bullies, and we have poor social skills so we can't manage the glib/charming thing.

An autistic and a sociopath may very well be the ultimate crime duo.

I don't think one can be both autistic and a sociopath. the brain structures are different. sociopathy, at least in the studies I've seen so far, indicates bilateral abnormalities as well as a complete disconnect between the reasoning and empathetic centers of the brain while autism does not present with bilateral abnormalities, nor are we incapable of empathy.

oh, you said crime duo as in a sociopath with an autistic sidekick? I doubt they'd work well together. the sociopath would end up killing off the autistic for not unquestioningly following orders.

ASDs may be thought by others to be sociopaths, especially if they are particularly underwing and or more seriously abusive then others. However, ASDs (typically) actually care for other people, whether they are capable of showing it or not. Sociopaths believe that emotions are weaknesses (in an extreme way) and that other people exist solely for their own amusement. They may frequently pretend to befriend someone for the purpose of "psychological experiments". They will either feel pleasure because of another's pain or they will feel literally nothing due to the other's pain, such as they would if the person had said "My favorite color is blue". When they "feel nothing" due to another person's pain, that means they also do not feel uncomfortable. This applies to all other people including their boyfriend, parents, best friend, etc. He may get married just to be able to have an always-willing sex partner. A mild sociopath may just be friendly and fun, but will not have any close relationships because he is not interested in them. He may not actively try to harm people, but will not be sad if a longtime friend leaves because he can find someone else to help him have fun. At the opposite end of the spectrum is the worst kind of sociopath, who will do the "psychological experiments". Whether one is a sociopath is not the result of what can be casually observed about you by a mid-level friend, but rather by what you are thinking when you do things.

Sure there is a lack of empathy that autistic people almost always have. But that is not the same as a lack of sympathy or a lack of a will to do the right thing. It is simply a neurological mechanism that makes it harder to understand other people and what they are thinking and feeling.

Sociopaths by nature are highly manipulative. It is not possible to be highly manipulative without understanding people much better than anyone on the Autistic spectrum is capable of doing.

I am for sure do not have antisocial personality disorder, but I think one of my former roommates did and I would never want to be like him. He always lied, for example he stole our pills and denied it but his girlfriend said later he was addicted to those pills, used his girlfriend as a sex toy basically, he abused his cat and was going to shoot it and me and my husband saved it, etc...

The urge for things is the capitalist impulse. Those with an unreconstructed conscience may give in to criminality in the pursuit of stuff, of power, and of all the other things capitalism taught them to yearn for. In an equitable post-capitalist society, crime will be almost unheard of.

i think many of us display pseudo psychopathic traits as a coping strategy.

The fake charm, lying by reflex instead of intention, a sense of arrogance and detachment from others, lack of remorse over violating social customs,

But its all very artificial, usually says more of how we view nts than how we actually are as person.

i think sociopaths are usually the opposite of autistics in a way. Autistics have problems with understanding other people, but usually still care about others(it just might not show, because of our lack of understanding). Sociopaths usually understand others extremely well(you have to in order to be sucessful at so much manipulation), but they don't care about them at all. Sociopaths can shallowly fake being a nice and normal person, but we often seem awkward and selfish even if we genuinely care for people.

^^^ That.
