I walked to school and took my dog to the local park by myself earlier today, and I was pleased with myself because going out alone isn't normally something I feel comfortable with doing. Up until recently, I would only go in the supermarket with my Mum, but now I have started to go in by myself and buy a few items, and I am gradually increasing the number of items I buy until I feel ready to do the weekly shopping. I can handle the crowds in supermarkets because it is expected, but I suppose having my Mum there with me made me feel safer.

I become anxious when I have to go places on my own, probably due to the fact that I'm not social. Additionally, at school when I'm asked to go to a specific classroom to ask or deliver something, I become anxious - especially if I don't know where the room is or I have forgot where it is.

Is there a reason why she can't go out alone?

I go out alone.

Apparently from her mum that she gets severe meltdowns and her temper is pretty bad when she is in a bad mood but she hasn't done any harm to me when she has been in a very bad mood and plus she has went through depression and she tried to attempt suicide a few times before when we was on our way to school and I remembered how terrified I would be just to see her do that and she self harmed. :(

She wanted to be seen as a normal individual and obviously feels left out.

I'm pretty sure that explains a few things.

My mom lets me go to places on my own but I rarely do it because I don't have close friends who invites me to hang out and its just much better to stay at home sometimes.

Not really. I'm 16, but have bad road skills and bad social skills. Not a very good combination :?, however, I really do want to go out sometime on my own, and hopefully it will happen soon. :)

Since I was about 8 or 9, my parents would always send me to the store for them with their debit cards to get things like milk and bread. It was a small town, but looking back, I had a considerable amount of freedom and responsibilities.I was allowed to go around the block and to the park whenever I wanted, as long as I did my chores....

Okay. She sounds protective. I wasn't allowed to leave high school when I was 15 and 16 during lunch period. My mom said there was no reason for me too and the school lunch was cheaper and more healthier. I knew she was just doing that to protect me and keep me out of trouble from my peers. I didn't go anywhere on my own really until I was 17 and then I got in trouble with cops and mom told me to just come home right after school. I was only allowed to go to my own doctor appointments and that was it. But I went to places anyway after I get done with my doctor appointment or softball open gym and that be looking in thrift stores or second hand stores and I left school to go to the library when it was towards the end of the school year because there was no school work and all kids were doing was socializing and I had no reason to be there so I left. But I started getting more freedom when I got out of high school. My mom decided to let me be more independant because I was now an adult officially.

I can and do go places on my own. Heck, I live on my own... being unemployed, I do get help from my parents, but I also do my own grocery shopping, get work done on my car and I go to the bar once a month( due to money being tight, it's usually about 6.00 a month or 3 beers)....

When I was 12, I was allowed to ride to the comic store in-town despite it being 3 miles away and in a busy part of town. When I was in high school, in 10th and 11th grades, we had open campus so we could go to Burger King or the PX food court. This was when we lived in Germany. When I was 18, I got my first car, and man that was great...

I've regressed a bit. I've not wanted to walk into town on my own. Errr...I blame the heat.

Lucky.... I have been suffering in the cold for the past winter season...
Makes me feel lazy to go out places on my own... I eventually end up doing so anyways but I'd prefer it to do it on my own time. 8)

I can operate vehicles, take care of myself/go place on my own. I consider myself blessed that i'm not severely autistic.
