It's a sort of fuzzy noise. I make it by tuning a radio to between two stations so that it makes a loud static noise, but I think there are other types of white noise.

I don't have a particular sound that I like but I tend to prefer anything that's quieter or normal, the only thing I can listen to loudly is music. Other loud noises are irritating.

A very old camera that makes a nice click when you take a picture, I have played with that sice I could hold a toy and nearly had a heart attack when I saw it in the bin a few months ago.

Mr Men hardbacks that make a crackle when you open them, don't know why it has to be MrMen though because I'm 24 8O

You would love my computer. If there is no disc in my cd-writing drive, then it pops out and in every 2 minutes that you are on the computer.

I love thwak noises---room temperature butter hitting the linoleum is perhaps my favorite.

Also, I have a metal roof over my home, and when it rains (especially in our computer room) it is a most pleasant noise.

I love the snorts my dogs make when they are happy.

I love the water noises of my fishtanks.

White noise is just a mixture of all sorts of different frequencies of sound waves all mixed together...sort of like white light is all the colors mixed together.

I grew up in a house that had train tracks in the back, two on the ground and two more on a trestle. The railyard was just down the street so there were trains running behind the house constantly. The sound of a train being pulled by three diesel engines was one of my favorites, a loud, deep rumble that shook the house.

crunchy snow
the sound that pop bottles make when you open them for the first time

Some sounds that I like:

Two cycle Motorcycle Engines. ( I like the metallic grinding sound

EMD Locomotives, which have used very large two cycle diesel engines to drive their generators/alternators until recently.

Detroit Diesel engines of the -53, -71, and the -92 Series, which were supercharged Two Cycle Diesel engines which sounded much differant from other past diesels, as well as current Diesel engines.

Electric guitars, played through overdriven Valve (Tube) amplification, in conjunction with an undamped, infinate baffle (Sealed Box) 4 by 12" driver speaker cabinet.-- The speaker cabinet and the way it responds when played loudly has a great deal to do with electric guitar tone.

The sound of Metallica's guitar riff on Track 12 of their "Load" album gives me shivers, not a lot of music can do that.

I also love the sound of the Enterprise going into warp.

I love the sound of horses in a stable after they've eaten dinner and the sky is getting darker
The sound of a horse blowing air through his nostrils in time with his speed and gait
The sound of a horse calmly eating hay
The differences in the sound of shod and unshod horses walking on concrete
The sound of a 737 flying over my parents house at night...they come in slower and quieter than they do during the day
Insects at night, especially the first night after winter without them
The towell-snapping sound white winged doves make with their wings when on the ground eating sunflower seeds to defend their personal seed-eating space
The sound of a wooden gate shutting and the kachunk sound the metal latch makes when it catches

And a sound I don't love so much...really loud bass coming from a car behind me when at a stop light. It makes me sick to my stomach.

The sound of a machine I have to blow insulation in older homes sort of different tones of swooshing depending on the pressure at the end and pops from the stactic build up on the hose

Movie projector: Yep, I guess this one is obvious, The clatter of an old 16mm projector reminds me of those Friday "Movie days" in school. Just a great sound overall!

Try a 70mm projector going at 30 fps. Now there's a lovely sound. All too rare these days, but anyway... :)

(I'm sitting in a projection booth as I type this, listening to 35mm clatter, thinking back to days long gone...)

White noise, though not harsh white noise - I suppose 'broader band' noise then.

The sound of the M1 a short way down the road - it's fairly quiet but REALLY soothing - the kind of noise I meant above.

The computer fan.

Water moving - ie stream, river, waterfall, ocean etc. Not taps running though, really.

lawn mowers :D

Trains - so very rhythmic.

Distant thunder.

rain.

swishing of corn being blown by the wind.

the wind through trees (so long as I'm not in a forest or something; I get spooked by it otherwise.)

toilet flush - it always sounds so quiet to me (not sure why) and soothing.

wildlife when in some tropical wildlife centre or something - it's music of nature.

loads more of which I can't think right at this moment.
