Reaction 1 - cat = introvert is stupid; I have only met one really introverted cat; introvert does not equate to loner - and cats are not by any means necessarily either, nor are dogs consistently sociable eithefr with humans or with other dogs.

Reaction 2 - how totally typical; a healthy happy and asocial person is seen as sick, and someone I know who CANNOT be alone for more than about an hour is seen as the norm.

Yes, it gets old. It got old a long time ago.

[applause] :)

I also really like that you used the word "asocial." I wish people would understand that there is a difference between "asocial" and "antisocial." I happen to be the former, as are most introverted people I know.

I wonder how many more years it will be before simply being introverted is considered a "disability." :(

Introversion is far from a bad thing.

Who will go further in life? A hyper and talkative kid who's always out with friends, or the one who sits at home obsessively learning computer programming?

I am an extrovert but I think that the way that they wanted to seperate the introverts at the conference is stupd. Introverts are cool, mysterious and edgy. What is not to like about them. I am envious of them.

Cats aren't anti-social, they simply prefer being able to socialize at their leisure.

Trying to force a cat to be social gets you scratched, waiting for them to come hang out gets you loved, applies for I-type folks the same.

I think the coordinator might have just been trying to make a joke (which failed), rather than trying to say introverts are bad.

However, I agree that for the most part, introverts are seen as the people who should change to accommodate extroverts, rather than the other way around.

I'm a cat too.

The hyper and talkative kid of course - he'll learn how to manipulate people, while the one who diligently learns computer programming will have nothing but an honest, decent skill. It's not what you know that counts in this world, but who you know.

But it would be different if I were running the world.
And my argument above is only partly true. At least I hope it is.
