My voice sounds pretty flat unless I am animated. I have been told that I often give the impression of being bored, or annoyed. As with Jay, I can deliberately inflect for emphasis however, or to feign excitement/interest, but it feels fake and I'm not sure how convincing it is. I like mimicking stuff off TV/films and music though and seem to be quite good at it...

There was a link on aspergia where there was a sound clip of a boy who had AS who didn't have a flat tone to his voice. In fact his voice sounded a lot like mine as a kid when I tended to put a little too much emphasis on syllables.

It sounded like mine also. I try to concentrate on the tone of voice so that it is not too much monotonous. But sometimes, it is quite monotonous, especially when I am tired.

My voice tends to be pretty monotone most of the time. When I'm really depressed, it's especially monotone (almost without change in pitch). Usually, when I laugh, as another example, it's more of acquired habit than genuine laughter. Same with smiling.

However, when I'm speaking about something interesting, all that emotion starts coming back to me.

Definately very terse and monotone. I am the only one I have ever encountered who sounds like me. I have not been officially diagnosed with AS, but I am sure I have it. I also have constant angry look which pisses peope off. Face stuck in tension and anxiety. People scream and yel at me because of it. How do I get rid of this?

actually, it's funny. i'm not usually monotone when i'm talking regularly to a people i know, but it's weird. last night i called this guy i like for the first time, and when i got off the phone, i was like "holy crap, i sounded so monotone."

since he couldn't actually talk then, i called him this morning, and we had an actual conversation. i still sounded more monotone than usual, but i made sure that i wasn't doing it completely, out of fear of sounding like a jerk.

My voice is actually very animated, but when talking on a boring subject, or something serious, or i'm just plain tired, my voice goes fla and monotone.

Listen to a Steven Wright (comedian) CD. The guy has got to be on the spectrum. I just listened to his "I Have a Pony" CD this morning. Deadpan voice, fabulous sense of humor (in my opinion)

My voice isn't monotone, but it's not exactly 'normal' either. I've noticed, watching videos of myself as a kid and even listening to more recent recordings of my voice, that there's something... odd about my speech patterns, but I can't exactly pinpoint what it is. It's like I put the emphasis in weird places or something.

Those of you who have a sound player capable of playing .ogg files (I've linked a number of such players on the page in question) can hear a sample of my voice here:

Listening to your voice reminds me of that gas station character from the movie "Tommy Boy", that Richard runs into when he's trying to find out where Davenport Iowa is.

I have the complete opposite of monotone. My voice is completely out there and overexaggerated and I tend to change accents mid sentence. Most of this comes from my many years and theatre (which actually helped me get over several of my AS traits).

However, a boy in my year has AS (I actually have a HuGe crush on him and have ever since we were little and had no idea what the heck AS was) and his voice is quite monotone usually.
