Research study I might be eligible for
I mean the ones you posted about at Pitt. There are a few going on, some just for people with ASD. If your IQ is truly 143 when they test it, it's too high for them. I think the cutoff is around 120 or 125. At least, for people with autism that's the cutoff. I'm not sure what it is for the controls, but probably the same.
Oh Ok.....do you live in the Pittsburgh area?
I grew up there. I love Pittsburgh but the weather leaves something to be desired.
Anyway....I seriously doubt I would score that high again. The scores (Full scale at least and i'm pretty sure FSIQ is all they're taking into consideration here) on all my other tests were 112, 112 and 116. I've heard that the highest IQ score you ever receive is probably the most accurate indicator of your cognitive potential (at least when it comes to academic potential). Even if that's true I doubt i'd score anything close to 143 now. I'm extremely depressed, probably more so than i've ever been in my life. Serious depression can have a negative impact on one's test performance and often enough, quite a significant one. Thanks for clearing this up anyway
I'll see what happens....the director of the Pitt study is supposed to call me back tomorrow or sometime this week at the latest.
I spoke with the director of the study today. She is mailing me a consent form and someone will contact me for a phone interview after they receive the completed form from me.
As I pretty much knew already, she said I probably wouldn't be eligible to participate in the WITHOUT autism (control) group since they are looking for healthy controls with no socio-emotional or behavioral problems.
Even though I have never been formally Dx-ed with an ASD, I certainy have plenty of those issues and I made that clear to her.
I'm actually surprised they're even considering me for the WITH autism group since I also made my lack of a formal ASD Dx clear.
I told her that all my neuropsych evals claim that I fit the general NVLD profile and that I was Dx-ed with Schizotypal personality disoder. I also told her that many professionals consider NVLD and Asperger's one and the same and that a large percentage of people Dx-ed with AS exhibit most, if not all, the characteristics associated with NVLD. Maybe she knows all this and maybe she doesn't. I'm never surprised anymore by the things even many relatively ASD-knowledgeable professionals don't know.
Nonetheless....i'm forced to wonder why i'm even being considered as a participant since I have no formal ASD Dx. I mean i'm certainly glad that I am, but a few questions have emerged in my mind because of it.
I should've have ASKED HER why i'm being considered, but that never occured to my silly brain while we were talking.
Anyone have any insight into this? I would think a serious research study like this one would summarily rule a person out who never received an ASD Dx on any of the five neuropsych evals they had.
