very interesting KF. what is the soda can story?
I culd be mean and say "buy my book" but I won't so here'e the story:
I don't remember people all that well, but I do have a associative memory meaning that if a person gives me an item or if I associate a person through an item I can remember them as best I can.
That being said, when I was 12, in 1995, I had a friend stay the night. He drank a minute maid soda can that night and placed it on my dresser. I am not a neat freak (if I start to clean I would never stop so why would I start?) so that can stayed there a while. This was fine by me because he moved away, but it was like he still was there through that can.
Time passed by, one month, six months, one year, three years, eventually five years later when I was at a race car driving school in Las Vegas my mom thought she would do me a favor and clean my room. When I returned I was horrified, shocked and in utter dismay. So many of my memories were tossed out, but the #1 thing I missed the most was that can.
It took me a long time to get over that can and I cried more over that can than the loss of my dog and two cats (each pet lived 15+ years and was about the only true friends I've ever had. I connect better with cats and dogs than people).
That's the story in a nut shell.
