"My name is Khan"

He plays someone with Aspergers supposedly, however it comes across as someone a little lower fuctioning.

There's also Adam, which can be bought on DVD from Amazon.com and other sites.

That episode is so cute :3
But I don't get the thing with the giraffe, why did Carl get so scared of the giraffe?

Nope, and that's a common mistake. Only the savant skills, which are also found in autism. Rain Man in the movie was based on several individuals with autism, as per the makers and psychiatrist who consulted on it.

I've seen the Temple Grandin movie and it is really good. I also saw Mozart and the Whale for the first time last night. I really likes it. It was a cute movie. In the situation with my Dad, I think it would probably be best to go with informational, factual programs, probably documentaries (I come from a family that watches Discovery/History/Science channels all the time, so I think any sort of informational film would be a good idea). I will look into the suggestions you all have made and take a look for myself. then I can decide which would be best to show my Dad.

By the way, the majority of the information I have obtained in reference to Asperger's (I guess Autism as a whole) is in reference to children. Although I know that there is no way of knowing how ANY person will turn out in adulthood, I was curious if anyone can verify whether Mozart and the Whale gives an accurate portrayal of Asperger's in adults. Just wondering... :?:

Haven't seen M&tW, but the book was written by someone with AS, and the movie was based on that, in addition to them (M&tW) consulting for it.

I think this is how it went.

Mozart and the Whale are members here, so they might chime in sometime.

There's a new one coming out called Bunny and the Bull. It's by the director of The Mighty Boosh, so it could be funny but may have some adult content.
Basically Stephen (AS guy) thinks his life is going nowhere and his friend takes him across Europe to er have some fun, you know, meet women and stuff.

I'm a big fan of The Mighty Boosh so I think i'll have to check out Bunny and the Bull. The title sounds familiar, but I didn't know anything about it until your post. When is it going to be released?

I don't know if your dad reads, but I gave a real simple book to my family that is called 10 things every autistic person wants you to know...or something like that. (It's been a while) It was short and sweet but gives a basic idea of how an autistic person thinks and processes differently. Not every chapter pertains to everyone, but you can share the chapters that reflect your child. You can go through it pretty quickly and it's a good start.

I first realized I may be an Aspie when watching "Mozart and the Whale", which is a movie about a couple where both man and woman have Asperger's. Now, many years later, I have an official diagnosis.

I very much recommend it!

Trailer for "Mozart and the Whale" :

there is no movie that i have seen that epitomizes aspergers. the adam movie and "mozart and the whale" were not able to inspire any feelings of identification in me.

as for TV shows, the big bang theory has some clever scripting at times but the characters fail to deliver it in a way i identify with.

columbo is an old TV series where a genius of analysis (columbo) is portrayed as a shabbily dressed low income earning homicide detective, and the series pits him against arrogant rich snobby and very intelligent perpetrators who think that they have struck gold when they see him assigned to investigate them, but later in each show, there is a moment where sinister and forboding music iterates that the perpetrator has suddenly realized that they have more than met their match. it is a very good show and i identify with peter falk's character in it.

the show monk is ok as far as the character has some aspects i identify with, but he is essentially OCD, and so i do not consider it the best match for me, but it is much better than the asperger movies.

the best current show on TV to portray as potential mental match for me is "Doc Martin".

Seriously? I kinda hated Adam because I found it quite patronizing... but I absolutely loved "Mozart and the Whale" (and related with BOTH female and male lead).

What about X + Y? Have you seen that one? That's another movie I could relate with.

What about Silicon Valley?!

Or what about Mr Robot?!

House MD perhaps?!

And what about Sherlock?!

Or Bones maybe?!

Are you telling me there's not a single of these series where you can relate with the main character?!

i don't care if you care whether i care. it's all too convoluted for me

I get that... and you're entitled to not caring the slightest.

... just like I'm entitled to being curious about why I do relate to the main character in each of these series... whereas you don't!

For example, this is completely me (especially when I'm in a bad place emotionally) :
