I watch TV, but very selective. I like watching documentaries, news etc. During watching movies and many other TV-programs, I experience to much sensory overload. Near this I find it difficult to recognize faces and to see a movie as an entire story. I experience party the same when I read books; that's why I only read (a lot of!) non-fiction. :)

If I watch tv series on my laptop I tend to have the wikipedia page on that episode open since I do not always get the implications of actions etc.

Anyway, I dunno. I do have to have the sound up loud so I can tell what they're saying (not deaf). But it's not a problem

Having difficulty hearing things without any problems with your ears is sometimes related with APD. I don't know if it might be related to anything else. I also have this problem, and would always need the TV louder than most people, even though my ears are more sensitive to sound than most!

Anyway, I don't have a problem with some of the shows on TV, I just have a problem with TV. Having to buy packages and pay for a lot of content you wont be viewing is stupid. I watch all of my shows online now. Usually just comedy shows, since I like to laugh!

I find that when I have a really bad head or neck ache, that watching TV is just about the only thing I can do. TV is great to just zone out on and take your mind off of things, and when I've got extreme pain going on, that's just what I need!

TV rules it!! rules!! Is it bad if I quote lines from Beavis & ButtHead :? Anwyas I enjoy TV a lot but I watch a lot of reruns. I watch the same Family Guy & Kind Of The Hill eps 2wice a nite when they rerun on Adult Swim. Those characters do seem to have characteristics on the spectrum. I quote lines over & over in my head

I do prefer books and the internet, but I have no trouble watching tv, especially my favorite movies/shows. What I can't do is watch movies with commercials. I watch them on my dvd instead. I also can't watch tv in a dark room. I also have to have the subtitles or closed caption on.

About the same for me, though i will usually just watch what i want on hulu, there are some shows that are just better to watch on my parents' projector (gives a 8.5' viewing area   ).

Certain shows are just too boring to watch. I like some shows. I have trouble paying attention to stuff I have no interest in.
Maybe the Aspie you know would rather be doing something else?

Sometimes, I watch movies and series and get completely absorded in them. After I watched Titanic on DVD, I bought several books about the ship and was fascinated about why it sank and how it could have been designed differently. It seemed impossible for it to sink on it's maiden voyage and I found it hard to believe that it was an accident, so I studied it, some.

me too, only on things that are shot digitally, so it didn't used to happen but now happens all the time. it's ok till someone starts running around. :(

i can't stand television, anyway. there are some shows i like, but i can't stand television on that i'm not watching, even if it's in a neighbor's apartment. mostly it's the advertising i can't tolerate.

A lot of times, I go to the kitchen during the commercials, or put laundry in the washer or dryer. I don't pay a lot of attention unless it's Vince the Shamwow/Slapchop guy.

I just saw the documentary House Of Cards on CNBC, about the financial crisis. It was interesting.

No, at least I don't think so. Although when I was younger, I never understood story plots in television shows and movies.

I watch some TV. I love PBS, documentaries, and some movies. I despise the way commercials are a lot louder than the programs. Sometimes it's really noticeable. Otherwise, when they come on I go straight into my own thoughts or turn to my MB Pro. I hate flashy "rock video" techniques or metallic sounds (automatic gunfire, car crashes). I hate "macho" action movies with a passion, and other action movies that have a constant barrage of these overwhelming sounds.

I can get really attached to some shows, but it's rare. I miss the Sopranos. I watch the Fox animations every Sunday, and Tuesday is always PBS night. Other than that, it's usually my husband that turns the thing on. Luckily, we have two rooms with a TV in them and they're at opposite ends of the house.

But no, I wouldn't say it's "hard" to watch TV (just certain shows/movies), unless I'm just not in the mood. I hate TV on in the daytime. That's my music time.

I wouldn't say it's typical, though it could be typical of those with particular sensory issues.

Me, I HAVE to watch TV or I go stir crazy.

So far as ive observed (yus im watching you.. like the CIA or MI5.. yes my life is THAT dull) it varies with the sensory issues, my TV watching is limited though i used to be an avid soaps fan, mostly its crime dramas these days.

Kinda the problem when we only have "Lower functioning" or "higher functioning" ... tells you nothing about a single AS case.

As a child I rarely watched TV - I prefered reading novels, because with reading you can choose your own speed, and go back to things you miss. I would find with watching TV that I often had no idea what was going on.

I realise in retrospect this is because of auditory processing difficulties and also difficulty recognising faces (prosopagnosia).

As an adult I do watch TV, but mostly I watch videos of TV shows online, where I can rewind if I get confused. When I watch TV, I always use the subtitles, and that really helps. I process the written word a lot more easily than the spoken word.
