As far as my behavior and intellect goes, I'm pretty mature, or so I'm told. I was once told that I have the intellect of someone who's around 30, and whenever I have to deal with rude or foolish people, my mom will often tell me that I "handled it maturely".

But when it comes to interests and hobbies... Well... that's another story entirely. :) My mom says that my interests are more suited to a 14 or 15 year old. My special interests revolve around films of all kinds - but all of my top favorites are either rated G or PG. I still have imaginary friends and I also sleep with a teddy bear every night.

Well, I don't sleep with teddy bears( don't think I did since I was a baby, anyway; found it very uncomfortable), but my girlfriend still may.

Yeah, there's nothing to be ashamed of. I embrace my inner child, and I think everyone else should too.

agreed. Just remember: the majority of people who tell you to grow up and embrace "mature" interests are the same people who will chide you for not watching the news and "worrying about the big problems we face today"; it's honestly little more than a massive joke to me.

Be you; do what you do. It's the best you you can honestly be. :)

I don't think maturity should be something dictated by interests. More so the way you run your life.--->The way you deal with problems, the way you support yourself etc.

but if I went by your definition, my answer would still be no tbh.

I'm not immature! I'm telling my mummy on you!

Heheh. yeah, joking aside, I'm INCREDIBLY immature. I don't exactly know where aspergers comes in, but I suppose if you are not good with forming relationships, you are less likely to become emotionally mature. Like somebody said earlier, immaturity is ften a red flag for ASD.

I fully agree....but then the rest of the world doesn't really deal with problems that effectively, so of course they have to project their irrationality & immaturity on us.

A lot of my interests are considered immature -- I still love cartoons of most kinds, I play on virtual petsites and other more kid-related communities -- but I am fairly mature as far as intellect is concerned. I may like a lot of childish things, but at the same time I get very focused on things that people my age would have no interest in. I really have trouble finding the medium of what a normal College student would be interested in.

As far as maturity being based on actions, I don't go to parties because I don't like large groups of people. I don't drink because I both don't like loosing control and feel as though the fact that I get obsessed with interests so easily might have negitive implications (my father was an alcholic). I dont have any interest in sports or dances or dating or anything of that manner.

I can say that some things about me could be considered immature: I don't have a liscense and dont' really want to get one, I don't curretnly have a job (I would like one but don't like the idea of being forced to socialize and most jobs I can find require that). I have very little sexual interest and no real interest in dating/relationships. I could name more, but that seems to get the general feeling across. I have younger siblngs still in highschool who both have liscenses and I have been the butt of many jokes because I don't seem to want to get one myself reguardless of indipenedance that it may allow me...

Well if you have to rely on them for rides and stuff, I do understand in that case.

I think that the immature/childlike stereotype is based on our body movements, blunt speech and logical thought processes. Young children are still learning how to use their bodies and tend to have awkward gates and jerky mannerisms. They also are very direct and to the point when speeking and tend to be sharp, observant and logical in their reasoning.... probably why I find it so amusing to have "socratic dialogues" with youngsters. Also, as Willard said, delayed executive function/impulsivity may also play a role in the child-like demenor associated with the spectrum.

Is somebody is sociophobic, afraid of everything, can't use public transport, manage basic things and get a job - yes, they're immature.
