Oddly, I never had an ear infection as a child, but my younger sister was plagued with them and all she has to show for it is a touch of Dyslexia.

Nobody really knows what causes exist. I'm of the OPINION there could be many different factors in every Autistic case.

Among them I think are:

Physical environmental factors (pollution of various kinds, including noise pollution)
Emotional environmental factors (stress caused by a number of possible things ~ such as, but not limited to, family members that suffer from emotional disorders ~ I don't mean genetic, I mean just the fallout from being exposed to it ~ abuse - both emotional and physical)
Genetic factors
Cultural factors (i.e. attitudes and paradigms handed down through many generations)

I highly doubt any one cause will ever be found. I think it's multiple factors that may or may not someday be identified.

I'm totally satisfied vaccines have nothing whatever to do with it.

I was born with it. Nobody knows exactly where in my family it came from, especially since there were a lot of adoptions. But a lot of the family members we do know of are mentally ill, especially on my mom's side.

Traits run in my family on both sides.if that counts for anything...My mom is very ASish..especially compared to her mom and siblings...She said that her dad was very silent and uncommunicative and mathematical...and her theory was that he suffered from PTSD from WWII
She is very right-brained left handed...as am I...she has always been affected by sensory issues and will lecture repeatedly on her obsessions...and she has IBS...etc....I remember the meltdowns she would have when I was very little....she has always had difficulty holding normal jobs and has only successfully been employed at art supply stores for any length of time.

I happen to take after her a lot...as far as the way my traits tend to manifest.

My paternal grandfather was a chemical engineer with very rigid and eccentric ways...His younger brother was so eccentric that he never married and was a complete recluse for most of his life...He was obsessed with the stock market and made a lot of money even though he sorta literally lived in garbage..

Both of them were rather "spectrumy"....though even though they were born when my grandfather was in his 40's, neither of my grandfather's two sons are "textbook" aspie types...They have high intelligence and creativity and certain interesting traits and behaviors that could arguably be seen as AS-ish...For some reason, they are both quite socially dynamic...and are talent artists/musicians/engineers My dad is very empathetic...and is a high-end piano salesman....His older brother has always been very charismatic..

I am the oldest of my generation...I grew up with developmental issues and trouble adapting, and always stuck out like a sore thumb in comparison to my sister and cousins not to mention other kids

I am not as intelligent as the older generations of my family, but I have always shown signs of certain kinds of above-average intelligence since I was young...

I also had ear infections and a high fever at an early age, and I was dropped on my head when I was around 3 or 4, and I was in another accident at an early age where I hit the front of my head on the pavement.....I was delivered with foreceps after being born almost a month late, and though I was born late I was underweight.

So....hard to say....provided that I even "count" as being on the spectum (yes I am having one of those trips again  )

My pituitary glands secreted a cerebral spinal hormone into my brain cavety, in response to "progress", with like of environmental factors as pollution, Canadian arctic ozone depletion, (I honestly think it was the gamma rays), or living under the death cloud of Edmonton's refinery row. They have a school in the East called the Francis Xavier University, where they let mutated students graduate and graduates receive the "X ring" making you a genuine X man. ha ha ha. (Actually there is one, named after St Francis, not Professor X though).

This mutation while inconjunction with dyslexia or some other neurologically kin of gave me mutant powers to flip tanks over with my mind. But I rather use my skills for powers to help progress life on this planet. That is until my brethren from the Shiar Empire finally decide I have served my probation long enough. Aka they feel sorry for me getting my ass kicked on this crazy planet.

Why wasn't cursed by the gods added to the list? Who else would make you lonely but hate being around people? :? It is like what a god would do to someone in a Greek tragedy.

Or you could look at yourself as given a gift from the gods that came with a lot trials and ordeals to over come to really enjoy it.

I don't think we can determine exactly how people get autism. So that's why I put other. Hopefully, science will prevail and the cause will be determined. From that, science can figure out ways to improve the quality of life of the autistic.

I chose the option "born with it" because that, for me, is the most likely explanation. However, my mom did experience complications when she was giving birth--she was in labor with me for three days. My mom also recalls that I was sick very often as a child. I didn't begin showing signs of autism until I was around three.

I've been having ear infections at least once a month ever since I was a few weeks old... but I put that I was born with it.

Actually, I'm shocked that you did not include "toilet seat in a Tijuana bus station" as an option. I thought that was the most common means of transmission. I mean, my God, you need to spray those things down with disinfectant before you sit down. Sheesh... well, I learned MY lesson.

I got it from my dad. He got it from his. Its hereditary, but its also possible to get it if your mother was given certain drugs during pregnancy. I don't think there is any conclusive evidence that vaccines or mercury fillings cause autism. They haven't used mercury dental fillings in years, but kids are being diagnosed with autism more than ever.

I'm an alien. On my home planet everyone has autism. They came and switched me and an earthling baby at birth.
