As luck would have it, I read a news story about the same thing:

Autism linked to jaundice in newborns

(Edited to correct spelling, lol)

I dont THINK I had jaundice when I was first born.. I am number 4 (5 if you include a miscarriage my mother had after # 1) and I cannot find out. My father is gone and my mother has Alzheimer's that has progressed to where she wont remember. I do know that I have a sensitivity to Cobalt - which is a component of Nickel so I can't wear costume jewelry and have to be sure its not mixed in with any metals and cannot take vitamin B12 - which has cobalt in it. And because of the GS, if I wear anything with cobalt, it builds up as a toxin in my system and makes me symptomatic. I am really beginning to think if they found a co-relation with babies and jaundice...it would make sense to think that if the mother has GS, it may trigger AS.....There has to be something causing autism...
maybe even combined with all the preservatives we injest....

LOL.

I read the subject line 3 or 4 times wondering "Who the heck is Gilbert?" Then I figured out the Gilbert's Syndrome is a name for the condition.

I have had Drs who understand GS and I have Drs that actually are insulting and treat it like it is a joke, that it is all in my head.. something similar to people that think there is nothing wrong with my kids... that I just didnt raise them right. Those same people who don't believe in medications at all. WHATEVER!! Live my life for a month and then we'll talk.
I have been thinking whether my 18 year old may also have Gilbert's and we just dont see it yet. He's getting worse and worse with anxiety and becoming more sensitive to meds than when he was little. It very frustrating for me and him.

Ya know, I just heard that babies with jaundice are more likely to have an ASD. My parents, me and my son all had jaundice. My parents have something if it isn't an ASD, I have an ASD (pretty sure, anyway) and my son probably doesn't tho... probably just inherited the jaundice part from us.

That's quite interesting. My son was born with jaundice. I'll have to ask my mom whether I was born with jaundice also. Only my (aspie) cousin is dxed with Gilbert's Syndrome, and I have done bloodwork and the docs don't believe I have Gilbert's, so that rules me out. Not that I need more stuff to put in my medical records.

We have a group of "experts" in our area that work specifically with Asperger's and they told us that everyone has "asperger-like traits", its just a matter of how strong they are, how they are manifested and how much they interfere with your life. It is also said that everyone has OCD to some extent, again depending on if you get benefits to it or if it interferes. One thought I had was that Asperger's was a part of the evolution of man....
