I don't explicitly remember singing in kindergarten being a problem. The larger problem was that I would sit and hum to myself in all of my classes. My third grade teacher thought I wasn't paying attention and my parents got an earful for it.

In second grade we all had to sit on the carpet while the teacher gave lessons. I always sat at the back of the group, near a bookshelf, and would often look at the books while she was talking because most of the time I knew the stuff already. I thought she wouldn't notice, but she did.

My mom understood that I was bored, but explained that things would be easier for me if I at least pretended to pay attention by looking at the teacher.

I'm always told I'm so good at memorisng. My parents always want me to sing the Free Credit report.com comercials becuase I have them all except the bike one meomrised.

In kindergarden I thought the songs were stupid and never sang them. I just moved my mouth so it looked like I was. At the "graduation" we did nothing but sing those same stupid songs. I complained on the way and my mum told me to just say "watermellon" over and over so it looked as if I was singing. That's extactaly what I did. Later in "music class" when we were supposed to sing stupid songs, I made up words to them and sometimes sang the songs from my favorite movies just to annoy the teacher.

When they first started forcing us all to sing, I was furious, because it's a very invasive thing to do, singing being a very personal thing. So I'd just open and shut my mouth in time to the tune, and hope they wouldn't notice. They also forced us to join a choir, so I sang as badly as I could so they wouldn't pick me.

Paradoxically, singing became one of my best skills, once the pressure to sing their choice of songs was removed. I still have trouble in music groups when other members want me to sing anything that reminds me of the school's ethos - I wouldn't sing any pro-religion songs except gospel.....I like the sheer power of that stuff so much that I don't mind the clash of sentiments. And "Ave Maria" by Gounod also gets under my secular radar, though I wince at the English translation. Singing in Latin can be great fun.

I wouldn't remember this if it hadn't been written on my report card, (which I have all of going back to Kindergarten), but my K teacher wrote on it that I only mouthed the words to songs.

She also wrote on it that I didn't interact with the other kids in group play or even one on one play. I would only keep to myself. She also remarked that the one area almost all girls play together socially was the "house" area, and I didn't even socialize there and that concerned her. I would play in my own imagination.

The things I remember most about Kindergarten are loving the art table and being pulled away from it constantly and told I can't just do art, I need to play with the other kids; hating recess because I was terrified; and my parents aggressively pushing me to be outgoing, which I hated.

Right. I skipped Kindergarten, but the principle applies. To this day, I lipsynch EXCEPT with ABSOLUTE intimates or as parody.

If I am alone in the forest, am I singing?
