I prefer old consoles because you can buy everything really cheap on eBay. It's great because you have access to games and accessories that were totally beyond your means when you were a kid. I currently have 178 Sega Game Gear games that I keep in my kitchen drawers.

I'd like to upload pics of my Commodore VIC-20 setup and show some of the neat things that have been done for the VIC in recent years, but I don't have the facility to upload photos at the moment.

Always been a gamer, always will be.

I started with cards, dice and boardgames. As soon as I could write, I started making my own boardgames. First one was a WWI dogfighting game... you know... shoot down biplanes and become an ace. I also made a galactic version of Monopoly... buy/sell planets, spaceships, develop the planets, avoid greedy aliens and what not. It culminated in the early to mid '80s with a WWII game that was pretty darn crazy. Economy, production, city development, research and of course... lots and lots of destruction. Things like ships taking on water, planes catching fire, troops running out of ammo and fighting in cities - it was all modeled... and all the rules were in my head. I'm sure they were pretty flawed, being made by a 12 year old with no Internet access or other options for research, but still... the ambition was certainly there 8O

Then I got a ZX81 clone and shortly after, a C64. From there on, boardgames faded fast because I basically had to play the boardgames with myself and being your own opponent is not all that great. The C64 was eventually replaced with the Amiga and then PC. Never been into consoles. It's not that I dislike the concept of consoles, it's just that the games I play tend to either play better on PC or be exclusively available on PC only.

In the late '80s up until 2000 I was also heavily into pen and paper roleplaying games. I often consider that the best time in my life and would like to get back into it, but I seem to lack the drive to get over the hurdle of finding a whole new group of people to play with. Doesn't help that it's oh-so easy to just fire up World of Warcraft.
