I think that phrase could be used to describe me as well. I prefer to wear clothes that are bright and cheerful, but I still have an interest in "dark" things.

I find it strange that you were the only one in your class who liked Pokemon. At my elementary school, Pokemon was such a big deal that the principal had to ban it because kids were getting into fights over the trading cards and spending so much time on their Gameboys that they weren't paying attention in class.
Well, it was me and one other person, but that was about it. That school was weird; The previous elementary school I went to was like that - such a big deal that the principal took action. Then I moved to a new school and suddenly it wasn't popular anymore. Besides me and the other friend, I don't recall anyone really even talking about Pokemon in a typical conversation. Every once in a while it would be brought up (even less often it wasn't brought up by me), but... yeah.

I remember during one of the last days of the school year, when we were allowed to bring Gameboys to class, a few others brought a Pokemon game with them, though. They said I was just too obsessed, which... wouldn't be incorrect.

Somewhat akin to IdahoRose and Dnous... I consider my aesthetic Victorian Gothic (hence the avi), plus the pre-Raphaelites and their romanticized images of the medieval. I was outside the goth community because I found most of them affected and/or superficial, but way outside the mainstream nevertheless and with a dark worldview.

My other interests:

MUSIC. Too deep to discuss in any brevity.

Handmade (by me) stuff, from clothing to yogurt. I love to spin wool and silk and knit like a fiend. Made all my own clothes for a few years.

Tim Burton movies (my aspie son shares this one with me)

Psychology--of sensory-processing sensitivity, of addiction, of fandom--all evolved directly from trying to understand the intensity of my own special interests

Currently, ayurveda. Trying to correct years of self-abuse.

I was never sure if I had any special interests. But I'm huge fan of a band and have been since 1994, with a hiatus of sorts for several years in between when I still loved them but wasn't paying close attention to them. I know just about everything about the band and I used to have a website about them. Uhhh, I guess this counts as a special interest? :D

For a while I was friends with other die-hard fans but the nature of their interest in the band seemed very different from mine. They tended to be obsessed with the frontman and wanted to get close to him, to the point of driving by his house, bringing him presents at concerts so he would notice them, and befriending his family members on Twitter, all of which I find rather creepy.

I'm not partial to the "emo" culture, but in the 80's/90's, I possibly would have been in the gothic scene.

I have a Gothic aesthetic without the exterior dressing or tattoos, and in the past have wanted to sleep with regular "goths" until I realized they're silly. The gothic aesthetic in myself is authentic though some people assume I must be faking it. People have a tendency to think they own whatever they dig instead of just letting it be a normal expression of their personalities.

Oh yeah! I love talking about my interests.
Music has got to be my absolute favourite interest! I play the flute at grade 6 and the recorder at grade 7 and I have been learning for two years on both. I used to play the violin and I got up to grade 4, but all the music was really boring and my teacher was highly critical (and, obviously, being an aspie, I can't stand critisism)! I practice every day for two hours, I have a whole cabinet full of music I can play... I play the keyboard, too. Well, I teach myself, but it still counts as playing, right? I don't really listen to music much, I prefer to play it! Ilike singing in my choir as well.
Second favourite interest has to be rabbits. I have books on them which I don't really need, as I have memorised the books anyway! I have a pet rabbit called Ross, and he is 9. Pure breed dutch rabbits like him are only supposed to live until six or seven years old! But he is still going strong. I used to have a two year old called Charlie, who is a quarter breed. He got sold when we moved house, though. What interests me the most is rabbit behaviour- you can train them! And I know what calms a ribbit down the most, how to train themproperly to go int contests, and what it means when they do a certain action.
Ok, i'll stop rambling on, now.

- Music. Music. Music. And everything relating to it. EVERYTHING.

- Foreign Languages - at the moment, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese.

- Anime (I'm not consistent with it, but the art style really draws me in for some reason)

- Fantasy/Magic and Dragons. I say them separately because I think dragons may have existed.

- Darkness. I've always prided myself as the "Goth that doesn't wear black". I tend to like dark art, dark music, dark themes, dark lots of stuff, and the romanticism theme with various arts (not romantic as in love, romantic as in Victorian emotional art). Past interests:

- Video games. I still partake in these, but I'm not as into them anymore. In elementary/middle school, Pokemon was an intense interest for me. Since I can't have nice things, I was really the only person in class who liked it. Yay. Led to much torment and isolation. Yipee.

Future interests:

- I hope to get into reading soon. This requires me to adapt to my difficulties with reading - I either lose focus or fall asleep while reading too often. I like reading while I'm reading, but it's difficult for me to be consistent.

There's a really cool person here, who has a bearded dragon.

Movies and tv.

And occasionally video games.

More specifically, Harry Potter.
