unlike some of the other not-sweating non-oil-exuding posters here, i am at the exact opposite end of the body odor spectrum - i wish i could get away with not bathing for weeks yet not having any stink, but in reality i sweat profusely with minimal exertion and minimal heat, and if i don't shower daily, more than just a few hours after showering i will get greasy and start to stink even with deodorants. i'm just a stinky little thing i guess

well you are probably healthier than me. i was told by many doctors in my life that i could encounter a situation of sustained heat that would kill me. it is better to have a well functioning cooling system and smell than to have a non functioning one and have to go from air conditioner to air conditioner as fast as i can on hot summer days. the only way i can cool myself is to wet myself with water i bring with me on a hot day if i have to be outside.

i truly feel stifled and on the edge of my brain being cooked when i am out in the heat on a hot day with no water to pour on myself. i feel itchy in the core of my nervous system when my internal temperature rises above 104.
it is a design flaw that i have so few sweat glands.

whatever sonia has come over so i must go.

I also wish i could be without washing for longer periods. Usually in summer or winter breaks i only wash once a week or for a special occasion.

I shower every day sometimes twice a day especially when it's hot out. I take the subway train into work and there are people who smell so bad that I can't breathe. Their breath smells so bad and terrible BO. Brush your teeth and shower every day! I once knew someone who didn't shower for 3 days!

I'd hate to be covered in mud or something purely because of sensory issues, but I couldn't really care less about germs and the like.

Your words describe each of us well ...

Are you bothered by offensive odors coming from others? I can *sometimes* go for a day or two before my own odor/s become/s intolerable for me, and there are definite connections between my own "down-in-the-dumps" and personal grunginess. However, I am completely unable to tolerate even the slightest of bad odors coming from others even though I occasionally do at least somewhat enjoy a little of my own.

I once met someone online who said he only showers once a month and I was grossed out.

However my ex would go a few days without showering and not brushing his teeth.

I have a friend who only baths once a week. She is not smelly either.

My other friend showers about every second/third day or so and the GF said my friend was disgusting for not showering, GF showered every day. GF really stunk... not a lot of people stink but... I really don't understand how someone can be that stinky. My friend whom she whined about never smells. So I guess it can be different.

I don't mind a little grunginess if I'm just staying inside because showering is such a huge effort to me. But I wash if I go outside.

i have a hard time with other stinky peoples' aromas, so i guess i am a stink hypocrite
i would never tell a person if they stank, i would just hope that they understand this. there are different kinds of stink, including people who go overboard with stinky perfume and cologne. these, to my nose are just as bad as any organic garden-variety body odor. i don't mind the smell of my own intestinal gas emissions, as they remind me of the rich leaded-gas unburnt hydrocarbon smell [similar to a cross between sauerkraut and aged meat] of pre-emission-controlled cars. i am guessing that you are similar in this respect due to the last sentence of your paragraph above. anyways, my emissions have a mind of their own, and no matter how hard i pinch my tailpipe they still manage to find a way to leak out, especially if i am distracted by something. this is why that i often go hide somewhere until the winds blow thoroughly away from me, and sometimes people wonder why i frequently disappear for minutes at a time- this is the reason why. i don't believe in imposing my stink on other people - the golden rule, after all.

I used to drive a cab, and the three people I ever said anything to about body odor actually appreciated that and began showering more often. However, the very worst ones were beyond all reason and I could only drive with all windows down (old squad cars with disabled rear switches) and tell them my car needed to go into the shop to get the windows working again.

it could just be that those stinky people simply cannot discern odors, from themselves or anybody else. some people's sniffers don't work properly, so what they can't smell they can't conceive of, either.
