I talk to myself every single time I am alone and within four walls. It doesn't bother me but I can imagine it scaring other people if they heard me do it.
My mum came close to finding me out a couple of times before i moved out. (I've heard both my parents talking to themselves though so they have nothing to criticise me for) :D
It's usually that I'm replaying the day's events to myself, working out how I feel about something, generally putting the world to rights, that kind of thing :D
From what I have read it is an aspie thing to do so I don't really mind that I do it. In fact, I feel as if I should have been doing it my whole life and I've only recently permitted myself to do it. I have also realised that since I started to do it my panic attacks have disappeared. In my mind that can only be a good thing. I think it acts as some sort of release...

No. Whenever I'm thinking of things, the word are always arranged as if they were written on paper rather than being meant to be said. Also, I itnhk faster than I talk.

This sounds a lot like me! I talk to myself very often; it helps me think. I also do it sometimes to "practise" for holding actual conversations with other people (it's like rehearsing; heh).
I've found I come up with better ideas when I have these long conversations with myself.

I talk to myself all the time, but not out loud, it all happens inside my head.

I talk to myself a lot, inventing imaginary scenarios. I'm too lazy to write them down though. I also talk to myself when I need to solve a problem, imagining two people arguing whether X or Y is better.

I roll play out loud sometimes and people have stared at me. ^^U Sometimes I talk to myself when I'm upset so I can clear my head and get everything out of my system. It helps me feel better and then I don't explode at people.

I talk to myself, it's hard to give it up as it's a way I work things out and cope with things.

I think I find the most embarrassing thing I do when I am caught out is not talking to myself but when I hold my hands behind my back or something, I hold one hand but the wrist and the other hand wags like a dog's tail and I do not realize I am doing it until some one grabs the wagging hand, and says some little smart remark like "are you shoeing the flies away from your bottom, Paul?".
Compared to that talking to myself is normal

Paul

Yes. I talk to myself. It isn't a two-sided conversation, though. I just talk outloud. I don't even care. And enough people are wandering around with their silly BlueTooth ear pieces in that someone talking outloud SHOULDN'T cause a huge stir.
