You have commonalities of stereotypical repetitive behaviors (stimming, special interests), and less reliance/less ability to use non verbal language and understand hidden meanings, hyper/hypo sensory sensitivities. There are similar co-morbids.

While not the old diagnostic criteria Aspergers is now associated with "mild" traits/"high functioning"/"high intelligence".

I do not believe Aspergers is a separate condition from Autism and believe it never should have been diagnosed that way. I do believe it is a sub-category of Autism that should have been redefined rather then killed off and I hope someday a "Aspergers-Autism" diagnosis with more accurate diagnostic criteria will emerge. I have extremely little belief that my hope is ever going to come to fruition and expect Aspergers to gradually wither away as those of us that were diagnosed with it die off, which is a shame.

Even most all NTs have ASD traits , it depends how you count them, .My contact with humans appears that most HFAs are more 'normal' than NTs... every human is diverse for what ever reason...

I agree. Once you say you "autism", then you have to explain that there's a spectrum and then try to explain where you are on it. With "Asperger's" you already have a clear concise term that says all that in one word.
