F*cked around with anti-biotics for about a year til I was done playing around.

Then I got on the 'Tane and that was the end of acne. :D

I got acne a few years ago, but it's finally starting to go away now. I have a few spots on my face but that's it.

I still have a few more on my back, but I couldn't really care less about that; no one sees my back anyway.

I've never really had it any worse than your typical teen...

I've never had an issue with acne but I have quite dry skin - I have eczema issues instead.

Cystic acne started for me at age 17-18, and has never really gone away. I had two cysts last week at age 60. (It made me feel very youthful.)

I tried antibiotics and whatever else was popular at the moment. I would have initial success, then failure after 1 to 3 months. The only thing that worked consistently for me was diet, avoiding acidic and greasy foods and especially milk and its derivatives.

I discovered the milk problem as a result of college vacations. I would fly home and inevitably experience a monster breakout. As soon as I was back in school, the breakout would begin to clear. Working on the assumption that the breakouts were food-related (I liked my parents), I realized that the one food I always had at home and never had at school was milk. My mother couldn't shake the habit of plunking a glass down in front of me. So I eliminated milk and foods prepared with milk and the acne became much more manageable.

Doctors and non-doctors alike found this diet very amusing, but as they had nothing to offer in its place, I continued to follow it even though I couldn't explain why it worked either. At least it gave me a sense of control.

I'm not qualified to claim that what worked for me will work for you, but if you have acne that is unresponsive to treatment, you might want to pay attention to what you eat. Something in your diet may be aggravating the situation.

I think that diet haa a huge influence on my skin. I would recommend that anyone suffering from acne should try tinkering with their diet before taking courses of antibiotics and the like.

I've had an acne problem since my early teens. I've been on numerous medications for it, but nothing has really worked. I stopped using salicylic acid because I heard that many with autism tend to be sensitive to salicylate. I've read that the diet can affect acne, but I'm not sure what I need to eat or not eat in order to get rid of these pimples that have plagued me for the last seven years or so.

I had acne issues in my late teens. I was on antibiotics. At one point, I was on accutane.

To me, acne has nothing to do with autism.

Almost every kid from about age 12 to about age 19 gets it.

I had it between 12 and 19; it went away when I got a haircut to cut away my almost shoulder-length hair.

Acne seems to run in families. I know hormones also play a large part. There is some speculation that those with severe acne naturally have bacteria species that are different from the rest of the population without acne. Then there is a connection between blood sugar and certain foods, which was originally considered to be an old wives' tale. Some people have acne because of an overproduction of sebum.

I never really had any problems with acne, except when I got poor sleep I would break out. In my teens, I would break out before my period. But mine was always very mild. Generally very clear skin.

I had pretty bad acne from ages 13 to 18 but now my face is pretty much spotless though i do get the odd pimple occasionally. Biggest problem i have with my face is the dry patches around my nose and forehead areas. I have been using a cleanser recently that seems to be helping. Picking my face was a big stim for me as a kid and even know I am fighting the temptation to do it.

I don't have studies off the top of my head, but i do know that there are multiple studies done on the affects of testosterone and autism. And testosterone is definitely a factor in acne. So, while i don't think ASD and acne necessarily have to go together, it seems reasonable that they might due to the common factor of testosterone.

I had very severe acne at about age 12-15; got somewhat better by late teens/early 20's. Now in my 30's, i have the occasional pimple but nothing major. My poor daughter started with it at age 10 or so; it is still going strong. She has tourette Syndrome and one of her tics is to pick at her skin. This makes it worse, of course. She does not want to do meds for the acne so i have not pushed her to take them. We have found some face washes that improve it somewhat, although no cure-alls. My oldest son also suffers from acne but his did not come on at such a young age as my daughter's. Not as severe either. He has had eczema and psoriasis periodically since he was a toddler as well.

We already do a gluten free diet and make a lot of our own food at home, so dietary approach is probably covered. We have found that keeping skin clean and not picking at it are our best preventions. But mine improved and i am a bit hesitant to try the strong stuff on them unless we have no other choice. At this point, i think we will just wait it out. Hopefully once teenage hormones calm down, so will the acne.

Never had it and I'm 48. Mind you, I was born at a very young age!

I think I was pretty average with acne if not below, I only had it bad for short moment when I was like 12.

Used to have acne, still have some scars on my face that are fading. Since I started juicing and consuming high doses of fishoil every single day, my acne is now completely gone. I should also note that I stopped touching my face with my hands, I had to take a lot of effort to become mindful of when I was touching my face in order to break this habit. My skin is still dry, especially around my nose and forehead though and I haven't really decided what I am going to do about that. I drink so much carrot juice that my skin literally turns orange, sort of like a nice tan but without all the UV damage. I should also note that this was not my intention to treat my acne or skin, I actually was intending to treat my digestive problems.
