I have an obsession with old celebrities. It's one of my most favorite things in the world. I also have an interesting obsession with the deaths of celebrities. I finally got to achieve one of my lifelong dreams of visiting cemeteries in California and seeing the graves of the stars. I have to know whenever a celebrity dies, and me and my dad are doing a death pool, which is where we each write down a list of celebrities we think will die within the year, and whoever gets the most wins.

My hobby is watching films and making up new stories with the characters. Fanfiction, in other words. I especially like doing crossovers using characters from different films because it's fun to imagine how the different characters would interact with each other.

Another hobby of mine: I love drawing and using the computer to finish my sketches. I use the free program GIMP since I don't want to pay for Photoshop. I like doing image manipulations too.

MUSIC. It's my life, and I couldn't live without it. I play the flute, recorder, violin and keyboard, and I love heavy metal and rock. If someone tries to stop me, I'll go into my 'panic' mode, and start crying and shouting, even when I'm really ill. LOL. I love making up fanfiction, too, particularly for Dragonball Z, Twilight, Harry Potter and Doctor who. Like, I take a character out, replace them, or add another one in that I think is better. I took Edward and Bella out of Twilight and replaced them with Mary and Tom, who are waaay cooler.
I also have an interest in collecting. Everything! Conkers, gemstones, cacti, bouncy balls, ornaments...

Music seems to be a common hobby or interest, as does computers, gaming, art and cars.

My lasting interest is other countries, particularly Western European countries (not sure how that happened, since I'm American, but I have a few theories), as well as flags and food from around the world. I've read that a lot of other AS girls/women have geographical obsessions.

From the people I know on the spectrum, I see a lot of commonalities and patterns in their interests. Many are into video games and RPGs. Many are into music, singing and particular artists or groups, ranging from the Jonas Brothers to Imogen Heap. A couple are into anime culture. One I know and a suspected one are into films (and they are also close friends!).

Mine aren't that obsessive in that I limit my time spent on them in favour of more socially related activities, but they are definitely strange. I'm interested in AS, the concept of "disability" and personal differences (I'm even writing a book on it!), plus a lot of strange music that many people haven't heard of (90s indie bands, experimental, shoegaze)...as well as minor interests in disaster scenarios. airplanes, airplne crashes, societal chaos, and alert systems (i.e. the emergency alert system). Nerdy, I know. :P

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

My obsessions have always been focused around military intelligence.
The actual topic in the field of military intelligence I focus on changes about twice a year.
I also had about a 4-month obsession with Joe Simpson, a British mountain climber and author.

My interests.

- The DSM
- Social experiments
- Britney Spears, a Russian singer named Nastya Zadorozhnaya, and another Asian-American performer named Kaila Yu
- Language structure
- Anything associated with the brain

Languages and certain aspects of people (physical) have been recurring interests throughout my life.
I don't really collect facts anymore the way I did as a kid, but to a certain extent, yes. Now I have to force myself to study, which takes craploads of time and energy.

Looking through the posts music seems the most popular so far. My shows an hour so I can't just say people on the spectrum like music goodnight. hehe

I can come with some reasons why people on the spectrum might like music so much but is there anything you good folks would like to add.

In my case, it's collecting and restoring Cold War era air raid sirens, antique/vintage TV sets, and old Diesel-engine cars from the 1980s (not seen in the USA; very rare unlike Europe & UK).

I know of at least several other AS/HFA people with similar hobbies. Many mainstream people find these "collecting" hobbies to be weird or bizarre.

When I was young- and still now, but not as much- I was interested in anything tragic.

The Titanic, The Black Death, The Holocaust, serial killers, baby Jessica in the well (I was really into that one!). I have no idea why I liked these things but my mom found it all very disturbing.

I don't find that odd. If I had the know-how and space I'd like to restore classic fruit machines and video games.

Ooh, I only just looked back at this topic - I see people have mentioned board games. I don't do it any more, but when I was younger I used to spend a huge amount of time making board games - dozens and dozens of them. That was a very serious passion. I have some old folders still that are stuffed full of maps and tiny paper pieces for all of them. :) (One of them has "Bored Games" written on it, which just goes to show how far my sense of humour has evolved since then. )

There was a series of books published by Usborne ("Battlegames", I think they were called) that had board games in them and a section with pieces to cut out. I blame them. :)

My hobby is mixtaping. Also I like to present programmes, because talking to a microphone is not exactly like talking to a real person. But my friends they think I would make a good presenter. I built my own website where I post mixes and it is very new and won't really be launched until next week. Both Autism Radio and WrongPlanet are already linked [of course!]...

I have around 100gb of music and it is my life, I don't really dislike any type of music, my taste is all down to the late John Peel who has a tribute page on my site, also next week there will be a special tribute mix as it will be the sixth year of his passing...

I am just starting to listen to AR UK the first time and I think it is a very special and worthwhile project and I wish you the best of luck with your shows!

I was obsessed with mazes between the ages of 8-11. Then, I got back into them when I was 22 and now that I'm 29 I have returned to them and have now included my 7 year old son in this interest. My interest in them was planning, designing, and drawing them. Eventually, after I had mastered making very elaborate/labyrinthine mazes, I started putting squares in them for characters to move via a dice roll and developed very complex rules for the game. Unfortunately, my rules for these games were too complicated and my AS traits probably turned friends and family off from wanting to play my maze games. I can't recall anyone but myself ever playing any of them. lol
