I am the same.

I can feel when a television is turned on but the sound is muted even when I'm in another
room and sometimes iof I'm outside the house. I also agree that it is something I can "feel" in my head, not hear with ears.

I think that is why I only get an average score on that hearing frequency test... And actually, even though I cannot perceive hearing the highest frequencies, I can still feel those in my head as well. Kind of like a vibration without sound.

might be something to this one too.. another link: Aches to Quakes

Excellent article! I'll have to thoroughly digest it when I have more time. But now I know that I'm a "roller-wave sensitive". 8)

As a child I would know about 10 feet away from the front door of my family home if the television was on inside. There was no possible way for me to see or hear it. I could just 'feel' it.

I'm wondering if that was due to some of the nervous system hypersensitivity Aspies sometimes experience. I could also unfailingly predict if it was going to rain and what the weather would be like at various times during the day when I was younger. My mother used to ask me before going out if she needed an umbrella or a coat as I was so reliable.

Did/do any others here have similar experiences with unusual senses like this?

as a kid i was the same way, but I could hear the extra high frequency sound the tv tube gave off.. maybe you were picking up on this on a subliminal level..

try this test http://www.hearingfrequencytest.com/

I can hear all but the 18,000 hz.

I can't hear the first 5 or the last 6 but all the ones in between clearly, my oldest son can hear all but the last 3

Here's a funny "ability".

I can materialize cups of tea out of thin air!

Well almost. I get so deeply into my special interest sometimes that I will suddenly get up and trot to the kitchen in a kind of trance, still deep in thought about my interest, rocking and clicking my fingers while I wait for the kettle of water to boil. Then I'll make tea, trot back to my chair with a full cup and continue what I was doing.

Then I instantly forget I have done it. I'll carry on what I was doing and a few minutes later think, "I'm parched. I could really do with a cup of tea", then I'll look at the cup and see that it is full of steaming hot tea, and I can't remember ANYTHING about having made it! LOL. A few times it has really spooked me because no matter how hard I try I can't remember making it.

It feels like Magic when it happens. But I have to presume it's most likely the scenario I described above instead...but who knows? :)

I can feel what others are feeling too, this is stepping into metaphysics territory. I think it's the main reason why I'm aspie; I can't handle all the stimuli so I shut every off. I have to 'tune in', but once I do I can feel things like pain, injuries and systemic disturbances. I wonder if that's why autists are allowed to become shamen under some native traditions.

Wow, this sounds so crazy. Don't tell the folks at the funny farm or Dick Dawkins that I said any of this.

I've got an incredible sense of hearing - I can hear things people normally can't. I've troubleshooted many an engine or motor with my ears.

This reminds me of a story I read in a book on VLF radio (Very Low Frequency). One day a guy came to the office of a military base that had a VLF transmiter (for communication with submarines) and claimed he could hear the transmissions in his teeth. They politely told him he was nuts and sent him on his way. He showed up a few weeks later with the times and dates of all the transmisions ( and was even able to distinguish the dots and dashes that were sent).
Turns out one of his fillings was acting like a diode in a crystal radio. The Navy paid for him to get his filling replaced.

On a more personal note. I can hear frequencies much higher than a man my age is supposed to be able to. I often wonder if this is because I have always avoided loud sounds and my hearing is "less damaged" than most peoples.
I also have a very sensitive sense of smell.

I have a very great sense of hearing and smell. I often smell things other people don't smell. Things also smell more powerful to me than other things. Which gives me headaches and force me to lay down. As far as hearing I hear very minute things. Things bother me a lot and I get paranoid if I'm unable to hear everything that's going outside my house.

Oh god, that was like needles in the ears. I can hear all of them. One of them made me drop the f-bomb and I'm at school.

I'm sensitive to tv's, too. If a tv or computer monitor used to make that sound I had to be far away from it and it would have to be returned to the store. *shudder*

When I was in junior high, we had a guy in our class who always claimed to hear AM radio through his dental work and he would say it was driving him crazy. He asked if we could hear it because to him it was very loud... no one believed him.. our science teacher told him it was an old wives tale.. till one day it was so loud we could hear it too by putting our ear close to his ear you could hear sound coming out of his ear... it was an evangelist the really wild fire and brimstone kind preaching it up on AM... it was only after that did his parents take him to get some relief

I used to experience something I called "dark feeling". I didn't know how else to explain it. It was only something I "sensed" when I met new people. If I experienced that sense it was a warning that the person wasn't someone I wanted to be around. I always ignored it as hypersensitive crap because it was totally illogical, and every time I had it the sense was correct. The person ultimately screwed me over somehow.

I still don't understand what was happening and hardly discuss it with people anymore. Unless I want to freak them out, hahaha...

I, too, can "feel" the high-frequency hum of a television. It sounds/feels very clear to me, yet others tell me I'm imagining it.

For about a week leading up to the Loma Prieta quake, I was extremely uncomfortable, like I really wanted to crawl out of my own skin. With the Loma Prieta quake and all of it's aftershocks, that was when I figured out what that feeling was, and could pretty much tell when a quake was going to hit and it's approximate magnitude.

That's very interesting! I sometimes "feel" an earthquake before it occurs, but only about 30-120 seconds before it does so. I don't mean to say that I feel the house (or wherever) shaking, I just find myself suddenly paused and thinking, "Earthquake." I don't usually experience this before an earthquake, but I've never experienced this sensation and had it not be followed by one. My theory is that there is some sort of "pre-shock," but I haven't looked into it.

I can't hear the first six or the last one, and have to listen closely to hear the second to last. The rest are crystal clear, as they say. Thanks for sharing.

i too have the weird high pitch noise when TV or other major electronic is on. I can also hear the sound of nothing. Its very hard to explain but if you ever end up completely alone in the middle of nowhere there is a sound out there that you can barely make out in normal day to day.

I can "hear" silence too. There have been nights where I have been in a completely soundproof environment, and it was a sound that I could really only describe was more like a feeling.

I have extremely good aim with slingshots (though I never got to use my father's handgun). I also have fantastic night vision. Unfortunately My eyes are super light sensitive, so most times during the day I have to wear my hat and sunglasses, so as not to fry my retinas. People in the past have compared me to a vampire. :P
