Hatred of sports on TV (sensory overload!)

I hate loud background TV, period--sports, a video game that someone else is playing, or CNN. My mother, who is hard of hearing plays CNN and business talk shows all day--on loud--when I go to visit her, and it makes me tense. (I have my own business--no stocks--so I don't give a flip about the market ups and downs).

With the noise issue of attending sporting events a major turnoff for me, at least with the TV set, I can adjust the volume to suit me. I am generally not much into sports, but I do like to watch football and golf on TV. Growing up, I loved to watch bowling. Bowling was the main sport I participated in when I was growing up.
