Funny enough both me and my son are under the spectrum and we like to try a variety of foods and would easily get bored if we stuck to eating the same thing over and over again. It's my NT daughter who likes to stick with the same things all the time LOL!! Even at restaurants we will not order the same thing as we did in prior moments..unless we REALLY love it!

Yeah, I've been doing this as long as I can remember. When I was a kid I ate nothing but peanut butter sandwiches for lunch...for like eight years. Now I'm absolutely SICK of peanut butter!
I eat the same breakfast and lunch every day. I change dinner once a week, but it's the same dinner Mon-Thurs. Fri-Sun I change things up. The next week I do it all over again.
I really don't know why I do this because I DO get sick of the things I'm eating and I look forward to Fri-Sun. But on those days I tend to overeat cuz nothing is in control and routinized. Then I get upset with myself.
Eating the same things is easy though and causes less anxiety over thinking about what to prepare. I honestly can't comprehend how people cook daily- and different things- because I plan a week ahead what I am going to be eating that week.

Me I eat the exact same thing for breakfast without fail even though I will change it up but within my interests but my current b'fast is: protein shake, then during break from bus route I have an energy drink, now lunch and dinner I rotate but I could eat pizza daily, with rather bizarre toppings like say pineapple and anchovies or shrimp and pineapple,or apple and gorgonzola cheese, etc. but I'll rotate with mexican foods mainly burritos or tacos but I went thru a fajita fixation for awhile. Occasionally I'll branch out to chinese food or the basic steak and potatoes dinner. I really don't have a problem with eating the same thing everyday.
This is how I am. If I go out to a restaurant with friends, I can order something different off the menu than I've had before. But when I go grocery shopping, the thought of making a list is overwhelming with so many endless choices, and I get sensory overload/panic attacks trying to decide on things in grocery stores. So I just quickly put the same things in my cart every time I go & get out of there as soon as possible.
I just always get cans of Campbell's soup and packets of Lipton Rice/Pasta in the same flavors every time, and the same kinds of Bolthouse Farm smoothies. And I eat/drink everything in ROYGBIV color order, one day at a time. So right after a trip to the store I would start out with a red/orange day. Tomato soup and spanish rice. The week will end with me having split pea soup, spinach noodles, blue goodness smoothie. It'll end with green/blue foods and drinks.
Whoa, this is fascinating. I've never heard of this one! Awesome. I arranged my bookshelves by book color at one point, but I got so confused I had to go back to alphabetical by topic.
Thanks for sharing that.

I don't organize books or CD's by color.. I do it by author or artist name in alphabetical order.
But I've been doing the color thing with foods and such since I was a toddler. I arranged my Crayola 64 crayons that way, and still have to do my clothing that way in my closet. But within each color bracket they are also arranged by season and texture.
When I eat big boxes of candy, I have to eat the candies I pour out into my hand by color order too. Of course I can't do this with rainbow nerds. Really frustrating. I have to just close my eyes and pour them into my mouth and not think about it .

I notice that I go thru periods of trends when it comes to junk food/snacks. One year I ate 2 king sized Twin Bing bars everyday. In high school it was 2 large Peanut rolls,jr high it was king sized Snickers bars with orange soda, before that it was Toblerone bars with either gummi cola bottles or bears, elementary school it was either Suzi-Q's or chocolate Snack Pack pudding. I have a usual at Taco John's which is either 2 super burritos, beef,no beans,no lettuce, extra tomatoes, extra super hot sauce. Or 6 hardshell tacos,no lettuce, extra tomatoes, extra super hot sauce, with a large diet Mountain Dew.

You sound like a dream roommate!
Sometimes we just have to do what we have to do to get by.

Yes, I go through periods like that too Jeff. I know my entire freshman year of high school, I had the same thing for breakfast and lunch every single day. For breakfast I had a bagel with cream cheese & a glass of cranberry juice. For lunch I had a packet of peanut butter cheese crackers & orange juice. Then my sophomore year I had a jar of baby food and a juice box for lunch every day. The baby food was always either banana, peach, plum, or apple banana.
I have been eating the same snacks for the past few years, pretty much. Just salsa & chips, Snyders of Hanover pretzels, Goldfish crackers.. and every now and then Oreos or cracked pepper popcorn. That is it. Those are the only snacks I have bought at the store in years.
Sometimes it gets really bad. This summer, there was a period where I only wanted liquids. All I had every single day was a soy green tea latte from Starbucks and occasionally a Bolthouse Farm smoothie too, the exception being that I would eat one slice of lemon pound cake from Starbucks. But I would just drink tons of water. I didn't want solid foods.
