Sluggish Cognitive Tempo: A Separate Disorder from ADHD?
Quote:
Anyone who says these people are lazy or this disorder is made up is going to get a swift kick up the butt from me.
I hope that's not referring to my message, because I never said people with SCT are lazy. I get so angry too when people say I am being lazy, because I am not, and neither are you. I was just saying that misunderstanding NTs think I'm lazy and ''not bothering to get off my arse'' - and it really upsets me, because that is not the case, and it's not intentional. That's why I'm glad I found this thread, because I've finally found other people who have this same problem.
What are the adult symptoms of ADHD, because I really don't think I've got ADHD, yet all of the signs of this SCT seem to completely slot together like a puzzle for me. But maybe it might be anxiety and/or depression what is causing this ''fog'' in my brain, or even lack of confidence.

Is it irresponsible to allow these doctors to make money off of privately invented, non-official diagnoses?
I was EXTREMLY hypo-active as a child. Total daydreamer, always in my own thoughts.
Then as an adult I got diagnosed and treated for depression, but SEVERAL antidepressents failed. No psychiatrist could explain me why.
Then I got dx with ADD (or also called ADHD-I or ADHD-PI) because of my lack to focus, but when I started reading books on ADHD I couldn't indentify with much that was written, because I'm not hyperactive, but insteat the opposite HYPO-active.
My attention is also not outward, it's inward. I'm in my own thought's all the time.
Then I started reading about SCT and it was the first time it made sence to me.
I also personally think so long there is not enough scientific basis psychiatrists have to be carefull, BUT I also think if a psychiatrist is trained in that area and recognices someone with SCT it explains a lot and missdiagnosis can be avoided!
There was no need to treat me with antidepressents, because my lack of energy is mainly NOT comming from depressions and this also explains why those meds didn't work and also the therapists who wanted to help me with depression were well intented, but all failed, because they didn't see that my mainproblem is something different insteat.
So I don't care if they make SCT an own category OR define the ADHD-PI/ADD type as a distinced type, but research must be done in that area. Also because it seems that meds for ppl with SCT work to some degree differently than with ppl with ADHD. But they need to take action, because otherwise ppl get missdiagnosed and get treatments who fail and that's extremly frusttrating when you take one medication after the other for YEARS and one after the other fails and noone is able to explain you why.
