And I wish they would get rid of the pill spitter, too.

You can eliminate these things by editing your /etc/hosts file (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_%28f ... ile_system for your particular operating system instructions). If you view the page source or right-click the offending image to find the URL, you can redirect all calls to that domain, e.g.:

0.0.0.0 pagead2.googlesyndication.com

I brought it up on the admin forum, and apparently that bouncing kid and the pill spitting kid are bringing in tons of cash for Alex, and he claims that the site needs a software upgrade costing $1000 US, so the ads stay. The ads are for an ADHD drug called Focalin, and as we all know the drug companies have extorted tons of cash from the American public, so they can afford to lavish a few bucks on WP. I've noticed that a THIRD drug ad has been popping up, for a multiple sclerosis drug of all things. Once Alex discovers the moneymaking potential of drug ads, this site will be ABC World News Tonight with nothing BUT drug ads. I suppose Ad Council ads don't pay squat, so Alex has to go where the money is. Running a site off ads is old school, a lot of places are forcing people to pay to play. Be happy that Alex realizes that if we had to pay for a WP subscription, there would be NOBODY here.

If someone alters the bouncing kid add to where the mouse arrow turns into you looking down the top of a shotgun barrel when you move it over the add, and then you get to try to blow that f^ing kid's head off when he jumps up, THEN I'd click the add!

I wish it would give me a grasping hand icon so I could grab the giant pills the girl up above spits out and jam them down the bouncing kid's mouth. That might at least keep him down for a few hours.

I hate ANY moving ads, because I HAVE TO WATCH THEM. :[ I have to know everything it says, I can't look away until it's looped... even if I want to stop. D':

That bouncing kid, ughhh..! The ad is distracting, and on top of that I don't like the meaning of the ad. All the kid is doing is happily bouncing on a trampoline (I think?) and they're using him to advertise meds. "IS YOUR KID HAVING TOO MUCH FUN? DOES HE MOVE AROUND INSTEAD OF OBEDIENTLY SITTING AT HIS DESK ALL DAY? HE NEEDS MEDICATION!" UGHHH.

He's still here for me. I want to shoot him.

Ditto. I see bouncing kids all day. I don't need one on the computer telling me to medicate the three I have at home.

I'm personally using Adblockplus and Noscript. I have adblockplus set to off though to be nice to WP. :) The occasional click doesn't hurt. If you're not familiar with noscript, it blocks all scripting by default, including flash and javascript, for example. You then manually add all that you want. Then if you want an ad, you either allow the domain or click the video to allow it.

A little too effective. That blocks even access to Yahoo mail. And it didn't get rid of the kid.

Now we have another one spitting pills.

Well, at least its a good way to get people to stop spending so much time on Wrongplanet.

I use Firefox with Adblock and have no problems accessing Yahoo mail or any other site. I was on WP for a year before I found out there were any adverts on here - and that was only because someone else was moaning about some of them.

Upgrade to Adblock Plus and you will. Yahoo's login page is now a full page Yahoo ad and Adblock Plus blocks the whole page out, preventing you from logging in to your mail.

Adblockplus only blocks what you want it to. Click the dropdown and click "Disable on..." and your content should display properly.

What bouncing kid ad?

This, and I don't have anything that blocks ads. We must get different ones. I keep getting one for Lloyds TSB, which I usually ignore completely, but looked at properly for the first time just now.

If you are getting ads for Lloyds TSB (don't we own Lloyds TSB anyway?) you are probably in the UK, where the bouncing kid isn't allowed to bounce and the pill vomiting girl isn't allowed to vomit. If you want to push pharmaceuticals in the UK it's doctors you need to sell to (or just bribe) rather than the masses.

I noticed that the bouncing kid seems to be blocked, but the pill spitting girl isn't. She now shows up for practically every ad, I guess to compensate for the lack of the bouncing boy. She's less objectionable than the bouncing boy, but she's still kinda gross. And yes, in the UK pharmaceutical advertising is illegal, so UK WPers will find different ads when Americans see drug ads.

UKers would be stunned to learn how easy it is to get a doctor here in the US to prescribe any medication you want. Just go in and demand it. If one doc doesn't give it to you, go somewhere else. "Doctor shopping" is prevalent here, and the practice of serving pharma addicts is so profitable that the govt refuses to step in. If any of you wonder how Lindsay Lohan can get Dilaudid, or Heath Ledger could get all the sleeping pills and muscle relaxers he had, or how Anna Nicole can get prescribed a pharmacy's worth of legal dope, that's how.

Although Anna Nicole had corrupt docs assisting her. Brittany Murphy had 10 different drugs when she died. Stars frequently get prescribed pills under false names. The whole racket is SO profitable that the drug industry really DOESN'T want national health care, and had to be bribed by Obama to support the "ObamaCare" system, where people are FORCED to buy health insurance or pay a tax penalty.
