That reminds me of another fear I used to have: being poisoned. I developed that fear from presentations on poison safety at my elementary school. The thought of having my stomach pumped was just about the most horrifying thing imaginable for me.

Living in general.

Living without a mate (even though I'm happily married - now - for years, and years, that was my obsessive fear.
The dark.
Whatever may be lurking in the dark.
Vomiting blood.
Spiders.
Something bad happening to my little girl.
Being disemboweled.
And tons and tons of other largely irrational terrors.

My fears:

- I have extrem snail and slug phobia. I completely freak out if I see one.
- the dark
- that something happens to my doggie or my mom
- being attacked, beat or the worst sexually asaulted ( but the at least 3 dogs I always have with me make that almost impossible, luckily)
- that someone breaks into my house

Oh god, that reminds me of one of my weird ones that might be my most intense... walking near or over train tracks. It instills absolute terror in me. Maybe it has something to do with that roller coaster incident. I need to get rid of that anyway.

I used to be terrified of spiders but I squarely faced that fear and decided to love them - respectfully. My life is better for it. :)

Happymusic you are a better person that I. Spiders are still on my Nixon Era Enemies List -- come to think of it, most anything that is cold blooded is also on my NEEL .... except for those cute tortoises ... moves so slow, so cute OMG!, they can bite! Another one for the list.

Also, I am scared of anything that is moving and you are more than 6 3/4 inches off the ground, so roller coasters, on the list.

Train tracks do bother me, not because I am brave or anything, but that goddamn tar smell. Makes me feel prehistoric in a bad way. I guess another one for NEEL. 8O

When I was really young, I used to be terrified of public bathrooms. Oh, I had no trouble using the bathroom at home, at school or at a house that I often visited, but when I had to use the washroom
at a store or at a house I wasn't familiar with I would have rather peed my own pants!
It was especially bad in the summer because my parents often took me on camping trips. It wasn't because the bathrooms were smelly or dirty or anything (well maybe sometimes), I just couldn't stand them! I also used to have nightmares about getting flushed away, even though I knew that was impossible.

I think you need to make a distinction between fear and phobias. Phobias are irrational fears. (I'm not minimizing them, they can be quite severe for many people.) I don't have any phobias but I'm a very anxious, fearful person. What I'm afraid of depends on the situation I'm in. I'm afraid of driving or riding on high speed roads, for instance. I'm afraid of being in many social situations. There are many other things I would be afraid of if they were to come up, but fortunately I have never been confronted with those particular situations, and I'm not afraid of them in the abstract.

Everything I have a fear of I can't escape from.
I have a fear of snow, being sick, fire, toddlers, spiders, and sudden noise. Tell me how to escape them! LOL
