Love Doctor Who, but never got into Star Trek :-)

I'm also not a fan of anime. I've seen ones I didn't mind, but it's never appealed to me as a genre.

I like some animes (kind of stopped following them after Fullmetal Alchemist, honestly), and I like some big-name Sci-Fi shows such as Doctor Who, Star Trek, and others. However, I don't get attached to genres nowadays.

The only genre I don't get at all are teenage chick flicks like Twilight (if that can even be called a genre or sub-genre).

But, no, you're not the only one. At least according to the responses you're getting.

Never cared for either. I'm more into the science of things. Not make-believe.

No you are not. I despise anime with a passion and have the same feeling twoards science fiction the only exceptions are Sailor Moon and Titan A.E.. Titan A.E. is one of my special intrests and is even the orgin for my special intrest in lizards. I don't think I've watched Titan A.E. ever since I got my bearded dragon almost two years ago.

I hate anime but I like some sci fi. For a while I was into that cheesy show Stargate Sg-1 because it incorperated myth (the mythology of different gods of different cultures) into a sci genre....but it got too cheesy for me once I became 16 or so. Its probably because Star Wars was my favorite movie as a kid, my parents said i used to watch one of the movies every two weeks or so for years....LOL.

I love science fiction but not all of it.

I used to like anime but it's been awhile.

There is only one anime that I love and it's Cowboy Bebop. It has amazing music and all around really well done. All the other anime I've seen I can't stand and I do not understand the appeal what so ever.

I, however, am a huge sci-fi fan.

I understand the appeal of anime, it's just that I don't get the subculture. I totally get the obsessiveness, even though I've never personally been obsessed with an anime. It's more the high-maintenance side of it from a female's POV. I cosplayed as a game character before, but the whole Wapanese culture is really quite competitive and elitist. Plus. the tendency to spend lots of money on kawaii crap. I'd rather own something more age-appropriate and better quality/value- rather than because it's pink and has a kitty on it. Though I will admit that the 'look' is impressive when people go all the way and everything they own/wear is Harajuku - if it's done a bit half-heartedly, it doesn't look so good. This is the same reason I'm not a goth, it's too high-maintenance. Plus, I feel a bit too old and fat. That's less of a gripe with anime and more with the subculture around it.

I really, really like sci fi, but it's certain shows and books.

I agree to this. Though fiction, or philosophy, is a part of science. Imagination is an important ingredient in devising experiments.

In that case, it's also the Wapanese that did it for me. Something about their being white and middle-class and their seeming obsession with an "exotic" culture as a way to establish their identity as someone oh-so-different and oh-so-misunderstood rather than as a sincere interest in something. :x

Not that anyone should be interested in anime just because it's anime. It's stupid. It's like liking TV shows just because they're TV shows. It's stupid.
