Never been in chat before. Chatrooms aren't my thing, also because of the reasons Namiko stated above me.

I go to the chatroom every so often, but not on a regular basis.

Hello Namiko! :-)

That is true of course. And I like the forums better too, but the chat is more addictive to me at the moment (I hope this addiction will pass soon though).

If I can somehow figure out how to get into the chat room without having some sort of problem, then I would be in the chat room probably more often then in the forums. See, I prefer the chat room, because I can interact on a more one-on-one basis with somebody and actually chat with people. I guess that's my thing compared to the forums. Nothing against the forums mind you, I like the forums here, but it would be nice if I could actually chat with people on here.

I really really really find it difficult to post of forums. I really find it hard to communicate thoughts ideas or any thing I just find forums just plain hard to get any thing accross or find some thing interest that others are say. I just can't think of any thing to say. The chat is way easier for me to talk in because the subjects aren't as limited as in the fourms and you can pass more information through a chat room that you can through a forum. And the chats keep your interests.

I do wish there were some people on WP that posted topics and posted on topics I was interested in. But thats not going to happen

Wheres all the pholosophers scienctists computer geeks that I thought alot of aspies were about surprisingly there doesn't seem to really be many here.

Believe it or not, talking on chats tends to give me anxiety similar to talking to someone on the phone or in public. I don't mind forums though and IM is ok (sometimes takes me a while to get used to it espeically if it's someone I haven't talked to before.)

Since several people appear to have technical problems with the chat (with the Java applet) I think it would be a good idea to make some sort of description about how the chat works. So it becomes easyer to find and setup an IRC chat programm for the ones that do want to chat.

I am still an IRC noob, else I would give it a shot to make a description myself.

Well to get IRC chat you need a IRC client.

Google for IceChat I think that is a good IRC client for windows. Open up icechat and I can't remeber off heart whether you can pick you nick as soon as it comes up but any way you have to connect to the freenode server.
When the server connects if you havn't already picked the chat nick you want type down in the place where you type stuff. /nick yournamehere to pick what ever name you want. Then /join #wrongplanet to join the wrong planet website.

Ok this is really rough if i had a windows computer and icechat I could of lead you through the process step by step exactly.

Thanks for the tip MindOfOrderedChaos!

Just installed IceChat, and it seems to work great :-)

For the ones that use a lot of different PC's (as I do) and do not want to install the chat software on all those PC's, Portablegaim is a great solution. (It is free and) it works from a usb drive, so just plug in the drive with Portablegaim on it on any windows PC and you are ready to chat. (I am not sure if the portable version works on linux too)

edit: "an usb drive" changed to "a usb drive" :-)

I went to the chat last night. Hard to keep up with when it got really fast, but interesting.

I've only been in the chatroom a couple of times. I have no problem connecting, but do have a major problem chatting to people. I can answer questions but have difficulty in asking or initiating conversation.

I've been in the chat once for about three minutes. I'm more of a forums kind of person. I like the forums better because I have time to look over what I have written. Also, in the forums, if I don't have anything to say, I can just move to the next thread without posting a reply. In the chat, if I don't have anything to say, people can still see that I'm in the chat and know I'm not contributing anything. It kind of makes me feel like an eavesdropper or like a creepy stalker.

I sometimes poke my head into the chat, but if it is active it quickly gets way too fast for me to keep up, so I end up just lurking.
