Been diagnosed with ADHD a long time ago, undergoing an Asperger's syndrome screening soon (showing many symptoms).

Hmm, I wonder if the people taking the poll are mainly those with a vested interest in ADHD, because of the title of the thread.

It sounds like something culture just made up to explain why kids are the way they are. When you look at a kid who is diagnosed with ADHD, they exhibit very normal behaviors of being a child. The public education system in modern society does not accommodate natural childhood anymore. Everybody wants to be politically correct, and have nice little Stepford Children. Parents are too preoccupied with their work and adult recreation to be bothered with the little pests and their demanding natures. This has been, and continues to contribute to the downfall of modern society in my opinion, and ADHD is just an excuse to medicate our children so they will be more docile and not inconvenience us anymore. Check out the youtube documentary End of Liberty and watch between 25:20 and 26:50 regarding ADHD.

There are probably misdaignosed children. There are always misdiagnosed people and non diagnosed people.

However, ADHD brain has been studied and some differences have been found in the development. Differences have been found in some gifted people as well, etc.

I think there is a difference between the children who are called "ADHD" because people no longer stand children who act silly and real ADHD people but the disorder certainly exist.

wow! my choice to take adderall despite my mom's occasional protests because i know i can't function without it is really my mom's secret desire to make me more docile? that's REALLY amazing, considering my tenancy to space out and be less energetic when i haven't taken it! (except if it's just for one day, then i'm just completely messed up for obvious reasons)

aww, did my life just break your little hypothesis? terribly sorry...

oh, hey, i've got a better one! you could say "you don't have ADHD, you're just lazy!"

oh, or you know what's even better? the fact that most ADHD medications would have the opposite effect on neurotypical people, since people with ADHD calm down when they have stimulants!
so unless the doctors are giving the misdiagnosed kids tranquilizers or something in secret...

you know, i once had a friend tell me to just ditch the medication, because not being a "drug addict" is apparently beautiful. so i'm glad that screaming and crying over not getting cake (no, not portal related) and wanting to kill myself because i can't do any of the things i love is 'beautiful'. good to know...

Probably. I only entered the thread because I like polls (I don't have ADHD).
