I listen to a very wide range of music, and it's expanding all the time. So it covers everything from what may be considered "cheesy", to music that scares the living hell out of a lot of people, haha. Music is music; no boundaries for me.

Extreme metal music is one of my pet obsessions, right next to the occult. The suffocating tempos, frequencies, and volumes help my brain to shut up for 5 minutes, while the intense and controversial lyrics stimulate me intellectually.

Is there not a stereotype floating about in society that seems to say that all aspies like classical or/and dance, disco really cheesy music ?

I've never heard that stereotype before. What gives you that impression?

Me too. In my case I like metal (heavy, power and thrash preferably) and instrumental music (of any type if is good, I usually hear intrumental music of videogames). I like orchestal music (especially of movies like Star Wars for example), but it isn't my most heard genre.

Never believe in generalizations, there will be always different people whatever his/her condition.

i interact emotionally and bond with "intense" music. "intensity" is subjective and exists in an array of emotions, and the most important factor is probably melody. no genre in particular, but emotional intensity inside of a complex, visual sound structure tends to grab me.

i like music i think of in preference to music i hear from others.

i can see that there are musical geniuses like billy joel and jimi hendrix and wolfgang mozart and i can not hope to create music like they can, but my own music iterates the tempo and key of my private world.

i do not often share my own compositions because they are mundane to the ears that expect a wild ride.

i am happy to compose and play my own compositions purely for my own audience.

i can listen to and reproduce almost any song i hear by recreating it on the the piano, and it is usually my reproductions of other peoples music that i will submit for people to hear.

i do not readily share my own compositions because i know that people are not in the same head space as me.

maybe i will post in the "wrong planet musicians showcase" thread, a personal composition tonight if i can be bothered.

Surprised no-one's mentioned Bach (especially the bigger fugues for organ) for the jaw-dropping beauty of the arrangements.
His music - especially for organ/harpsichord - can make me stop whatever I'm involved with/confused by within half a bar, and I simply float around and examine the relationship of the notes which generally appear arranged sloping upwards like an auditorium in front of me.
For a while nothing else exists except a vast harmony and symmetry, and if I'm a bit stressed (fairly often) I just mentally play back something and it re-grounds me pretty reliably.

But then again, my er, "speciality" is patterns and symmetry.
(and this isn't a recommended activity when other people are present. They just think I'm being sullen when actually, I'm practically screaming with the joy of it all)

I like rock & rolllllll!

I like a variety of genres.

What is most incorrectly reffered to as 'emo.'
Post hardcore, which is probably the actual term.
Metal/ hardcore. Not metal on its own.
Folk.
60s/70s/ rock and band around still playing that stuff.
Punk rawk!
I go for a bit of alternative folk too.

Current playlist:

You Am I
The Rolling Stones
City and Colour
Cursive
Brand New
Motion City Soundtrack
Glassjaw
Thursday
Funeral For a Friend
Death Cab For Cutie
Anti-Flag
Tim Rogers
Tim Kasher

I'm pretty MTV2 and MusicMax

I don't mind classical too. Like Stravinsky.

But I love love the music I listen to more than anything.

I've never heard of that stereotype before, but if it exists, I'm guilty of it because nearly all the music I listen to is cheesy and most of it is dance (with some Jpop, hip-hop and regular pop thrown in as well).

I like layered, textured and moody music with rock throttle. I guess my love of music started with music I heard in videogames. My favorites being. Paul Anthony Romero's music to Heroes 3,Lennie Moore soundtrack to Outcast and
Eric Brosius soundscapes from the Thief games. I turned to heavy metal music when I heard Iron Maiden at 11. I like some music that can be extremely cheesy. A good example is Virgin Steele which to me sounds a bit like a power metal band fronted by a Jim Carrey like character. Stuff like that is really silly but exuberant and puts me in a good mood. My favorite Power Metal band is probably Blind Guardian.
Lately ive been heavily into Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree. The music is layered but not very hard to play by yourself. it reminds me alot of Eric Brosius(and Akira Yamaoka's music to Silent Hill) sometimes.
