Good. Well, not good really - but you see what I mean...
At least my post wasn't completely off-beam.

Yep. I think that many of us share your discomfort with phone calls. I really find it difficult to call someone and rarely do unless I have information that I need to pass on to them.

So when someone calls me, I really make an effort to spend the time with them that they need. And I always try to thank them for calling and let them know that I appreciate it.

I have the same problem with calling out to someone too :)

I have recurring dreams of being paralyzed and mute when I need to call out to someone. This isn't far from what happens in real life.

Ha! I've always been the same way. I usually stand over their shoulder awkwardly until they say something. Sometimes I'll kind of lean in getting ready to say something, but stop at the last moment. All of this of course only makes me seem even more awkward. :)

Yep, it's that hovering business, isn't it?
And that slightly condescending "Oh, hello - did you want something?" response when/if you're finally noticed.

But it always feels like I'm barging in unless I go into hover mode.

I have done it in an emergency situation - a family-related toddler about to do something dangerous, say - but otherwise I tend to just stand about looking awkward, waiting to be asked.

Yep. I've been meaning to call an old friend so that we can see each other while we're both home over winter break, and I've been home 2+ weeks now and haven't done it. I'm leaving on Thursday, so if I don't call today, I'm kind of out of time.

The only people I really feel comfortable calling are my parents. I don't even call my girlfriend - I wouldn't want to interrupt or call at a bad time or make her feel like she's obligated to talk to me. Plus, I'm terrible at phone conversations.

Yes i get very nervous and i am quiet when i have to call to someone else and i have to keep repeating myself cause that person doesnt hear me. I avoid it as much as possible to call places or to call other people unless i really need to.

I can sympathize. I used to have great difficulty with phones, even to the point of "phone phobia". But I managed to get over it to a large degree with some work with an occupational therapist. Now, I can phone people if I want, but don't do it more than a few times a day.

I avoid social calls like the plague but I'm ok if it's work related or ordering food. But if I can order it online I will always do that over using the phone

I have this same problem. Phone conversations are very awkward and anxiety-provoking for me. Aside from my mom and brother, I can never talk to anyone without misperceiving when it is my turn to speak, or without drawing a mental blank when it is my turn to speak, or slurring my speech due to anxiety.

This is apparently a common problem for people with social anxiety neurosis.

I don't necessarly have phobias toward making and receiving telephone calls. I have more problems with the nature of the of call or the person that I am talking to.

I hate it when people call me and want to try and sell me something, or when someone calls asking for a donation. I kow that NTs also have problems with this as well, but I also hate it when the boss calls unexpectedly to work extra hours.

Where my phone anxeity comes in to place is when I try to call a person that I have had been obsessed with at some point in my life. Making a phone call to them is almost a big event to me, sometimes I never make the call due to the fact that the mood the atmosphere is never right.

Absolutely. I hate phones. I don't mind for some family and close friends. But I hate it otherwise. i put it off. I miss things. I forget things. I do much better than in the past because I HAD to talk on the phone for a restaurant job and even got quite good at it. but that is different. THEY did most of the talking. I just did the greeting and asked a few order related questions.

I have told most people it is better to text or message me online. I can SEE what you are saying and I will remember it better and also not have a problem with my delayed speech interpretation problem I have sometimes. I don't answer the phone if I don't know who it is. Maybe due to years of doing the same in my childhood home so as to avoid bill collectors. but now it is an anxiety thing. I sometimes don't answer or call back people I know. I get so anxious that I can't breathe.

Often I write a few key words down if I need to make a phone call. But if possible I have someone else do it.

This used to be a huge problem for me. I would have rather drank my own urine. I've gotten better tho.

Oh, I have always hated talking on the phone! My friends wanted to do this when we were teenagers. But I always zoned out and wound up being a poor conversationalist. I just don't see a point to it unless the person you're talking to lives 1000 miles away. Even then, it's more fun to just Skype.

Absolutely me too. I'd rather order anything online than over the phone. Any way I can avoid talking to someone
