I know that I would not be the same person without AS, but I am having a hard time dealing with it at the moment. I was very recently diagnosed and after the relief of finally having an answer to my life, I am now feeling kind of ripped off. I've never felt like this before about it, I think finally getting a diagnosis after my whole life was just a shock.

If only I am born normal, things would surely be more happier and meaningful than I've been experiencing.
I feel being an aspie is like a punishment, not able to do what I wish to be able to do, especially making friends, able to speak like other normal people. I felt like being not acceptable to anyone at all - this really makes me feel low and useless. In fact, I'm already 52, I only knew I have asperger a year ago, so it's like I'm already in hell suffering the years of difficulty not knowing what's really happening in my life, why I was so different.

>>> But what would you do with the remaining 50 years? (presuming you live to 100, which is very possible)? Why not do something that "Normals", are incapable of? helping out the world? Perhaps give blood, you have 7 more years before you reach the expirty date that's 42 donations, or 126 lives! The heroic party of the "PEOPLES'" Republic of China don't do this. Give it a shot.

Donate the money, to a cause too for double whammy good deeds. And you would proved that you are better than the other 7 Billion or so people out there.

I am unemployed and live at home, have no girlfriend, very few real friends, and social situtations send me into a panic. That said, I couldn't imagine what my life would have been like had I been born NT. I have fairly understanding family members who have always known I was the "weird" one long before I had ever heard of AS. Along with being labled weird I have been called smart, funny, honest and trustworthy. Like others have said I like my personality. I never want to be another boring NT. :D

After seeing the Neuro Typical madness in the world, I concluded being Aspie is not all that bad.

However, we are what we are. If our condition is genetically conditioned (if not determined) then we must be what we are and make the best of it.

I hope you come to terms with it. Maybe knowing can help you lead a more satisfying life from now on. I wish you peace and happiness.

So all those people who give money, donate their time, who protest injustice, and ware support ribbons for whatever cause are all Aspies. I am sorry but the majority of those people are NTs some Aspies lack the empathy to help or are too broke from low paying jobs to donate, Some of us suffer from social anxiety and cannot volunteer time or join protests out of hatred of being around groups of people.

I look at people who can just walk into a job interview who can get a job by doing a good interview. I see people standing with a group of their friends at the mall looking at ease with themselves as they laugh along with their buddies. I notice couples walking hand in hand with their children after a visit to the park. I know people who went to college because they knew they are good enough to graduate and now have a great life due to their education. I can say with clear consious that I wish I could do all that. I could say I was proud of being an Aspie but that would be lying just to make myself feel better. I hate that my Aspergers keeps me from being the same as my brothers or the few people I call friends. Aspergers did not give me a great skill or ability it has stuck me with weaknesses. My memory is bad, I suck at math, I have a visable unease around people and they sense it, I do not like being touched, sirens and fire alarms hurt me while a NT child has no problems with it, my lack of eye contact has gotten me into trouble with law enforcement, and I am intrested in things other people find odd. Why wouldn't I want to be normal just to do without all the hassels Aspergers brings and I would gladly become NT and be happy in my ignorance that normality brings?

No. It took me 30 years to figure myself out and I am happy with who I am.

What you are really asking is if you wish you were someone else, which is really just asking if you like yourself. Yes, I like myself.

No.

I gave up on "what would have happened if <insert change in initial conditions>." years ago.

I would LOVE to get rid of my sensorical issues. And not having been born is not something bad to me. so, yeah, I wish being normal.

Oh, god, tell me about it. The second I figured out what was going on and my life made sense, the regrets became significantly less important. I don't want to dwell on them like that.

I do. I wish I was born NT so I could have had fun with groups of people, not be shut out all the time. Maybe it would have been the diff that meant I got married and had kids, grandkids. I'm real tired of not having someone to share day-to-day life responsibilities with. I'm almost 60, in debt b/c people don't want to work with me and alone. Only so much lemonade one can make when there's not enough money to pay the bills.

Yeah. I'll take white bread and bologna over this any day.

I'm wary of wanting my prior life to have been different. Even the worst things that have ever happened to me, that I do all kinds of work to keep from happening to other people. Because life is complex and if you yank on one part of it you never know what good thing will be attached that you would be yanking out of existence. You never know.

And that's besides the other reasons I wouldn't want it not to have happened. I just don't think I have the wisdom to know which changes in my prior life would remove something important from me.

Yes. Exactly this. Pull on the threads of your life and you never know what will unravel.

4 billion years ago, there weren't any people on this planet. There were plenty of prokaryotes which might be the situation in another 4 billion years. In the long term it doesn't matter if you are neurotypical or not. What matters is experiencing life as a complex being.
Certain celebrities have said the reason they craved fame was so they could be immortal. Will anybody know who they are in a million years? It's not likely.
What everyone does today is pointless if you think about the longterm.
That's why it doesn't matter to me if I am neurotypical.
