I was told by the doctor who evaluated me that he knew from the the first meeting before I took the test that I had Aspergers when I described my intrest in stopmotion animation and how much information I collect on it. 8)

I was diagnosed when I was 5, I probably wouldn't have suspected it otherwise. I'm not sure if I have it or not.

While not really a scientific poll, it sort of puts to rest the idea that self diagnosis is highly inaccurate. Next time someone starts a "self diagnosed are posers" thread, they should be directed to this one.

My name is Bonkers Loony, and I approve this post.

I self-diagnosed a couple of years ago while I was writing an essay about autism (the topic was of my choosing) for my English 101 class (autism is the first special interest that I recognized as such). A few weeks later, my mother informed me that, when I was very young, I was suspected of autism. My dad managed to convince her that there was no need for them to seek out a diagnosis for me.

I've never sought out a professional diagnosis because... well... why should I care what others think? "I don't need to fight to prove I'm right." I know I'm right and that's what matters.

Since then, I've been paying close attention to people I suspect of being autistic and asking them about it (sometimes recommending that they take certain autistic quizzes, such as Aspie Quiz and AQ).

I met my girlfriend on a site that happens to have a lot of undiagnosed, unsuspecting autistics

Well, yeah. Most of us aren't stupid, just confused.
