What's door staff? Someone who opens doors in the front of buildings?

Is it possible the guy was asking if you were all right?

'Door Supervisor' is a polite term for Bouncer.
And the builders who replaced my roof recently didn't feel the need to beat anyone up.

Maybe he just wasn't a friendly chappie.

In my hometown it's small so there's people that will say hi or smile to you but when I do this some people just give you a glare as if to say "I'm busy, p*** off, you weird stranger."

If I tried to say hi or smile to someone in a populated city they'd look at me really confused like because they just don't do it there.

I think Jamesy is British and it's a sort of greeting over there. Although I think this person meant "what do you want, then?" sort of not very polite.
In Australia if I said hi to somebody and if they didn't want to talk they'd just give a rude "what?" It's so much easier to read people when you're own greeting style is a bit rude.

pensieve what do you mean when you said "what do you want then"?

this guy who was working on my house knew my uncle quite well since he is also does practical work on my family house so the other builder would be stupid to be rude to me if you get what i mean?

I was kinda gesturing to the builder to give me a friendly greeting. I guess i expected too much :? According to my mother who met him the builder was a nice gentle guy i think?

I am just saying usually if you work on someones house or there garden by moral standards its in your best interest to be polite to the occupents of the house right? Even if thier teenagers or young adolesants?
