I was going home on the train with a new co-worker the other day. During this particular time the trains are always PACKED and REEK, so I commented "This reminds me of the cattle cars going to Auschwitz."

Then she told me some members of the paternal side of her family had actually been at Auschwitz. I felt like dying. She didn't care at all though.

A friend died and I attended the funeral. On arriving at his sister's house (where everyone gathered before the service) she opened the door - dressed in black, looking very pale, and with eyes red through crying.
Me, running my "cheerful greeting" script: "Hi - hello, really nice to see you!".
I gushed, she caved, and I felt awful. :oops:
