I really don't like when they say "he's had great success as an engineer, despite his mental disability."

I did not like some of their phrases either, but I had no say in any of the production. I think they meant well; no one was making fun of us. That said, I think they generally presented all of us (me and the other people profiled) in a positive light.

Was that Alex Plank I saw sitting at the table in front of a laptop while there was a gathering going on at a house you went to?

That was at my home in Amherst. Alex was living up here this past year

Wow. This is what I saw on TV almost two weeks ago. This is how I found out about aspergers. I was like meh... I'm bored... wait... that sounds just like me.

Just curious. How does one get on the show? There are many with AS, but are they saying we ALL have ingenious minds? I am a writer, and have been for years now. Since I was a little child, that is. I have nothing to contribute mathematically or scientifically, but I am very creative. What would one call ingenious then, in the case of this show?

First of all, I was never seeking to become "a better man." I agree that statement makes me sound rather inferior in my less than better form. That said, I have gained valuable insights from the TMS program and I'm sure it's changed me in subtle but good ways that help me get along better while still being the same geek I always was,

Several people uploaded links to the show. Here it is, in two parts

OK. Now reading this post more... Is this show geared toward people with AS wanting to be "normal" as it were? We're different yes, but why fit in with everyone else? Maybe I shouldn't want to be on the show.

Yes, both Alex and Cubby appeared on the show. And another person asked how you get on the show . . . I don't know; they just called us.

The Science Channel aired the entire series again yesterday, and I really enjoyed every episode.

I'm curious, what's the status on TMS as a potential "cure" for AS? This was the first I've heard about this research and wonder how far along it's come.

I've heard of some very promising results from research hospitals in Australia, Boston, and Philadelphia. None seek to "cure" AS. Each study has its own focus but generally they are aimed at helping us "read" other people more effectively. That's done by enhancing abilities that are latent in all of us but particularly weak in folks with AS.

Now this sounds like a perfect approach, getting rid of the impairment and keeping the qualities....We could become super-heroes....

I'm intrigued - this is basically neurohacking. How would someone of limited financial means become a part of one of these programs?

You could sign up to participate in a study, if one was going on near you. Where do you live?

Yay, full show on youtube. I have read a lot about TMS, but in the context of treating severe depression. I didn't realize that people were studying it for treatment of autistic symptoms.

Is transient memory loss a side effect of this? (I know it can be when they use it for depression)
How permanent are the treatment results?

They could have easily made this program twice as long and included more details. I am doing google searches right now to see if there is more information on all of this.

I thought the color-blindness analogy was confusing. I wasn't sure what they were getting at.
"he's had great success as an engineer, despite his mental disability"--very poor wording, could use improvement
The train scene seemed very scripted and fake.
The show seemed a little lightweight to me (not enough details with excessive appeals to emotion), but most popular science shows are.
Otherwise quite a good show.
