I have a jumble of moderately autistic traits which I have had since I was a small child..emotional/developmental delays...troubles with being a "normal" "functional" adult...etc....I fit the "Aspie" stereotype moreso as a child than I do as an adult. I was told I had a speech delay till I was about 3.

um...I walk on my toes, I am very sensitive to sound, lights, and other people...their voices, the way they move and talk and the noises they make...

I don't drive, I am prone to meltdowns, I can scarcely make eye contact...ever...

I was assessed as having Aspergers at a center for autistic adults and children. I was assessed by another psych as having PDD-NOS...but neither of those count as a formal diagnosis, even though the Asperger's "specialist" told me that I could treat my assessment as a diagnosis...At the time of my assessment, I was not aware I had had a speech delay...so am not sure whether that means I am def. PDD-NOS and not an aspie, or if that means I am HFA...or if both of those are the same thing.

Yes.

I had to vote 'other' as I am not diagnosed Asperger's and do not come under the I think I might have mild Asperger's category.

I would have voted I think I have Asperger's.

Oh, yeah. I should have added that one, sorry. I was thinking about the people who come on with preconceived ideas of us as gravely disabled and themselves as doing okay (neither idea true) and ask if they might have "MILD MILD (as in really mild)" Asperger's, thinking of course they couldn't possibly be a textbook Aspie.

I am under the opinion that plenty of high functioning people with PDD-NOS are in fact Aspies. But mental health care professionals, like anyone else, find themselves out of habit classifying people into categories, when in reality, those categories tend to overlap or if people individually don't have all the symptoms.

I chose other because more than one applies to me.

To be honest, though, I'm here because whether I have Autism or not I relate best to others on this site.

I came to better understand my daughter. I stayed for myself, because there are many interesting people to talk to here.

When the outside world hurts my head I come here. I chose 'I'm autistic.'

It seems like there are Aspies out there who get response to their problems by the people in their community. When I find interesting topics written by these Aspies (to which I can relate), I like to read them.

I cannot vote on this poll because I would have to pick 4 of the choices.

I equally call myself Aspie, Asperger's, autistic, and I am the parent of a child with Asperger's.

I'm an Aspie. I don't consider myself to be autistic, as I don't think that I'm nearly severe enough to be called autistic. Plus, I am a strong believer that Asperger's is different neurobiologically than autism. I feel that Asperger's is more NVLD than autism. At the very least, I don't think it's fair to people with autistic disorder who really struggle with everyday life for me to say, "I'm autistic, too." I don't have nearly the same types of problems or to the same degree.

I suspect Asperger's (fit most of criteria) and have we have a 19 yo son with PDD-NOS and is lower functioning than Asperger's (needs some assistance). I came here to see if others have similar experiences and difficulties as I had when I was younger.

My child is autistic, doesn't qualify for aspie dx because he's speech delayed.

Though I don't have impairments, I strongly identify with aspects of autism.

I consider myself an ally to the autistic community.

I'm diagnosed with NLVD. Didn't vote.

I came to WP because after 40± years of self-blame I found out I come close to fitting in somewhere. I stayed because of the times that someone articulates something that I thought was just me. And because I find the people on here comfortable and interesting.

Now WP seems to have become a special interest. I have fairly strong interests, restricted interests probably, but I never thought of myself as having obsessive special interests. Actually, going to try and put some limits on.

So now off to bed. Really.
